**TITLE: Whispers Shape Distant Tomorrows by Aren Cole Vale**
**Chapter 91: The Unlucky One?**
Nolan cast a cautious glance around the dimly lit corridor, ensuring they were alone before lowering his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. “Lady Tessa’s pulse is remarkably strong and steady. It’s highly likely that she is pregnant.”
“What did you just say?!” Raul’s voice rose incredulously, his eyes widening in disbelief as he stared at Nolan. “How can that be? Are you absolutely certain? Could it be that you misread her pulse?”
Nolan chose not to delve deeper into the matter. “If you doubt my assessment, seek out another reputable physician to confirm. I merely brought this to your attention as a precaution. Should anything go awry, I don’t want you blaming me for your ignorance.”
With that, he turned on his heel and departed, leaving Raul standing there, a whirlwind of emotions churning inside him.
*Tessa is pregnant?*
*By whom?*
*When did this happen?*
The name that immediately sprang to his mind was Dominic.
But hadn’t the incident at Pero Cela occurred just two days prior? How could it possibly be…*
*Had she and Dominic been involved long before this?*
The thought ignited a fiery anger within Raul. He stormed back to Sunbeam Court, his heart pounding as he fixed his gaze on Tessa. “Tessa, when did you and Dominic sleep together?”
Tessa was taken aback by the abruptness of the question.
*Why would Raul suddenly ask me this?*
She had been entangled with Dominic for at least seven or eight months, but he wasn’t the only one.
Every time she met Callum, they would end up in bed together. There had even been a day when Callum had spent the night with her, and mere hours later, she was with Dominic.
Yet, these were matters that couldn’t be openly discussed.
Tessa struggled to grasp what Raul was actually insinuating.
In the end, she could only feign innocence, her eyes welling with tears as she replied, “Father, what do you mean by this? The incident at Pero Cela was purely an accident, and it’s only been two days since!” She continued, her voice trembling with anguish, “Besides, I had no idea something like that would happen. Who could have predicted that Avery would drug him…”
“You…”
Raul’s voice faltered, choked by a rush of emotions that left him speechless.
The plan to drug Margaery had been a collaborative decision among Raul, his son, and Dominic. Yet, in an unexpected twist, Margaery had emerged unscathed, while Tessa’s reputation lay in tatters before everyone.
Though Raul felt a simmering anger that Tessa had caused a scene that day, the memory of the incident also stirred a sense of guilt within him.
But could anyone truly become pregnant in just two days?
Raul’s gaze bore into her, his pupils quivering with uncertainty.
If Nolan had not made an error in his diagnosis, then Tessa must be hiding the truth.
Yet, Nolan had served in the palace for countless years, having accurately diagnosed the pulses of all the consorts without fail. He would not misinterpret a straightforward pregnancy pulse.
Still, as her father, there were certain things he couldn’t easily dismiss.
Ultimately, he resolved to set the matter aside for the moment, planning to wait until Margaery was married before deciding whether to support Tessa in terminating the pregnancy or allowing her to carry the child to term.
For now, this situation had to remain a secret.
Otherwise, it would only lead to further complications.
Taking a deep breath, Raul pressed his fingers against his brow and said, “It’s nothing. I came to discuss something else. As for your marriage to Dominic, that is no longer an option.”
“Father…”
In the end, the one deemed unlucky was her.
Tessa couldn’t comprehend it, only feeling a rising tide of hatred.
She loathed the Wallen family, both father and son, as well as Dominic for their sudden betrayal. She yearned to confront Raul and Dominic, demanding to know why they were treating her this way. But in the past, she had always played the role of the victim, the one who forgives.
Now, it appeared she could only rely on that tactic once more.
Feeling despondent, Tessa choked back sobs as she wiped her tear-streaked face, forcing a smile. “Father, you should concentrate on Margaery’s wedding. Time is of the essence, and there are countless details to attend to. As for my illness…”
“It has been so long. I’ve endured more than ten years; a few more days won’t matter. Perhaps this is simply my fate, to suffer endlessly.”
As she spoke, she lowered her eyelids, her gaze heavy with despair.
Her eyes were red, as if she had suddenly lost the will to fight.
She truly appeared pitiful.
Raul’s heart felt as though it had been stabbed, the pain indescribable. He longed to pull her close, to cherish her, even to offer her his own heart.
So that he could forget all about his earlier suspicions that she had slandered Margaery.
In the end, he tried to comfort her, saying, “I know you are a good daughter, but your illness still requires treatment. Let’s act tonight. When Doctor Mark arrives, we’ll try his remedy.”
If Tessa were truly his biological daughter, he would have to consider her even more carefully. He couldn’t bear to witness her suffering.
If not…
A peculiar thought flickered through his mind, prompting him to glance at Tessa once more. It had been sixteen years since his wife’s death, and he had never touched another woman. Raul took a deep breath, his expression becoming somewhat clouded.
Upon hearing this, Tessa cursed inwardly, *Disgusting old man!* But she still replied obediently, “Thank you, Father. You look so worn out. You should return and rest first. If you fall ill, I will be truly distressed.”
“Mm, you should rest well too. No more tears. Father will find a way to secure your marriage.” Raul stood, his mind drifting to the secluded villa he had purchased, a secret known only to him for now.
