After the demonstration, Fu Mingxue braked to a stop.
"Mom, what do you think?"
Mrs. Fu was full of praise. "This is great! Not only will you be able to see your way home at night, but it’s also fast. And you don’t even have to pedal it yourself!"
"Your factory is full of talented people. This is incredible."
’From now on, won’t my daughter be home in just a few minutes?’
"Just what you’d expect from the engine factory. They really know their stuff."
Fu Mingxue beamed. "Mom, I’m the one who modified this. The talented and incredible person you’re talking about is none other than your daughter."
Mrs. Fu was stunned. "You’re saying you modified this?"
’No way.’
"Of course. Why would I lie to you? It’s the truth."
Fu Mingxue parked the bike.
Mrs. Fu stood there, taking a moment to process what she’d heard.
She didn’t want to believe it, but she had no choice. Just as her daughter said, there was no reason to lie about something like this.
"So, where does the power come from?"
"Don’t we have electricity at home? I just charge it when the battery gets low. It’s cheap—only about twenty cents for a full charge."
Mrs. Fu was at a loss for words.
’How much? Twenty cents a charge? How much would that be per month?’
’Maybe it’s better to just pedal after all.’
’It would save money and electricity, and she’d get some exercise.’
But then she remembered that her daughter’s salary was quite high.
’Spending twenty cents on a charge was probably fine, then.’
She sighed.
’Spending a little money was better than having her come home late in the dark.’
Then, another worry surfaced.
"But since you’ve modified it like this, what if someone steals it?"
