Reborn in the 80s and Remarrying an Officer, Let the Ungrateful Cry! novel Chapter 4

Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Turning the Tables

Fu Mingxue heard the footsteps behind her drawing closer and closer. Growing more frantic, she yelled even louder, "Bai Siqi is stealing my university acceptance letter!"

Fortunately, she finally managed to run into the alleyway, flanked on both sides by neighbors’ homes.

And then, she saw her mother.

"Mom, help me! Bai Siqi is trying to steal my university acceptance letter—"

The moment Mrs. Fu heard this, she flew into a rage. Snatching up a nearby broom, she charged over. "Where is that little bitch surnamed Bai?"

Just as Song Yan’s hand was about to reach her, Fu Mingxue darted behind her mother.

"Mom, Song Yan is helping Bai Siqi steal my university acceptance letter!"

Mrs. Fu had already stopped. Hearing her daughter’s words, she glared at Song Yan, her face filled with fury. "Song Yan, what is the meaning of this?"

A flash of anger crossed Song Yan’s eyes.

He took a deep breath, suppressing his roiling anger. "Mrs. Fu, you’ve misunderstood. I didn’t do anything. Mingxue fell in the water just now, and I was rescuing her—"

Mrs. Fu’s eyes widened. She saw that Song Yan was soaking wet, then turned to look at her own daughter, who was also drenched from head to toe.

"Mingxue, you fell in the water?"

"Mom, I did fall in the water, but he wasn’t the one who saved me. He’s just trying to pull the wool over your eyes! He and Bai Siqi are plotting to take my university acceptance letter."

Fu Mingxue waved the letter in her hand.

Then she shot Song Yan a contemptuous look. "Song Yan, and you call yourself a soldier! How could you be so vile? I’ll let the matter of falling in the water slide. It’s a good thing I know how to swim, otherwise your little scheme would have actually succeeded."

Mrs. Fu was stunned. "Mingxue, when did you learn to swim?"

Fu Mingxue: ...?

’Oh, for heaven’s sake, Mom,’ she thought. ’Is this really the time to be focusing on that?’

"Bai Siqi knows perfectly well that my Mingxue doesn’t associate with her. What right did she have to intercept my Mingxue’s university acceptance letter from the mailman?"

"Mrs. Fu, Siqi just had good intentions—"

"Ha! Does our family look like we need her ’good intentions’? Song Yan, that’s your ex-wife. I don’t care what’s going on between you two, but don’t you dare drag my Mingxue into your schemes. Even if Mingxue doesn’t pursue this, I won’t let it go."

Without another glance at Song Yan’s face, Mrs. Fu turned and headed home.

Her daughter was home alone; she was genuinely afraid that this Song Yan would barge into their house after she left.

Left standing there, Song Yan’s expression was incredibly grim.

After a few seconds, he turned and walked away.

At the corner of the alley’s entrance, an anxious-looking Bai Siqi saw Song Yan and hurriedly asked, "Song Yan, how did it go?"
