"Let’s go!"
Fu Mingxue walked in front.
Qin Wenhao followed, carrying their things.
He had actually bought some liquor too, but his mother-in-law had taken it out of the bag.
So, he was only holding a bag of candy and a bag of pastries.
If he hadn’t stopped her, his mother-in-law probably would have thought even this was too much to bring.
Mrs. Fu saw the two of them out.
When a neighbor saw them, Mrs. Fu immediately announced loudly, "Those members of the Fu family are no good, but my son-in-law is a proper gentleman. He insisted on paying them a visit! Ai, my son-in-law is just so thoughtful—"
Fu Mingxue was speechless.
So was Qin Wenhao.
The neighbor was surprised. They hadn’t expected them to actually go to the Fu family’s home.
’It seems Fu Mingxue’s mom is the same as ever—all bark and no bite.’
’If it were us,’ the neighbor thought, ’after all that drama, we would have cut off the Fu family long ago.’
The two homes were a ways apart, separated by a street.
"This is it." The main gate was still closed.
Fu Mingxue felt the urge to roll her eyes.
’They knew we were coming, yet they deliberately closed the gate.’
Qin Wenhao stepped forward and knocked—
He knocked twice, but no one came to open the gate.
Fu Mingxue sneered and said loudly, "They’re just putting on airs! If they don’t want to open up, then let’s just leave!"
The words had barely left her mouth when the gate swung open.
It was Yan Hongwei who opened it.
Clearly, she had been standing right behind the gate the whole time.
"Oh, look, it’s Mingxue—"
His cool gaze swept over everyone’s faces.
"It seems you really don’t welcome us here. In that case, let’s settle the matter of the survivor’s benefits. You took eight hundred yuan, which is against regulations. Let’s be generous and say your share is two hundred fifty. That means you need to return five hundred fifty."
The Fu family members could only stare in confusion.
Old Mrs. Fu instantly exploded.
"In your dreams! That money belonged to my son! If we, his parents, don’t use it, are we supposed to let an outsider have it? Besides, it was already divided up back then—on what grounds are you demanding we split it again now?"
’What she really wanted to scream was—who the hell do you, an outsider, think you are?’
Qin Wenhao’s expression remained cold.
He spoke slowly and deliberately:
"Legally speaking, my mother-in-law was my father-in-law’s wife, his legal spouse. Their assets were shared. She is entitled to half of that money directly. That’s five hundred yuan.
"Furthermore, my wife, Fu Mingxue, is my father-in-law’s biological daughter, which entitles her to inherit half of the remaining half. By that calculation, even though you are his biological parents, you have four children of your own. Giving you two hundred fifty yuan is already generous. We won’t even charge interest. You just need to return the five hundred and fifty."
"Of course, if you don’t want to return it, I can go to the local subdistrict office and have them handle it. I can also pay a visit to each of your workplace supervisors and ask them—is it right to illegally seize the survivor’s benefits of a martyr’s family?"
