Song Yan remembered the car Qin Wenhao had boarded.
So he found it quickly.
It was a two-person sleeper compartment. Song Yan stood at the entrance without going inside.
"Qin Tuan, what a coincidence. Can I talk to you for a moment?"
Qin Wenhao looked up, glancing at him coolly.
Then he stood and walked out of the compartment.
"Talk about what?" His voice was as frigid as the man himself.
"Qin Tuan, is it true? You and Fu Mingxue got your marriage certificate?"
Qin Wenhao’s gaze swept over him, detached. "What does that have to do with you? Do I need to report to you? Since when do you have the right to question me about my marriage?"
The barrage of questions made Song Yan’s heart plummet.
Initially, he hadn’t fully believed what Bai Siqi had said.
’How could those two possibly have a marriage certificate?’
’At the very least, he would have had to return to base to submit a marriage application—the military still needed to run a political background check on her.’
’That whole process would take a considerable amount of time.’
’How could they possibly have gotten married so quickly?’
He didn’t know why he felt so miserable.
’It wasn’t as if he even liked Fu Mingxue.’
He forced a smile. "—I’m just concerned for you, Qin Tuan. You and Fu Mingxue haven’t known each other long. You don’t know her—"
"Song Yan, is it any wonder you were discharged? You lack even the most basic moral fiber of a soldier. Watch yourself from now on."
After tossing out these cold words, Qin Wenhao turned and returned to his compartment.
Song Yan was left standing there, his face ghastly pale.
He returned to his seat in the regular passenger car, utterly crestfallen.
When Bai Siqi saw him return, she asked urgently, "Did you see him? What did you say to him?"
"Bai Siqi, I regret ever meeting you!"
Song Yan’s sudden declaration made Bai Siqi’s face turn livid with rage.
"Song Yan, what’s that supposed to mean? What do you mean you regret meeting me?"
Bai Siqi was both furious and terrified. ’What’s wrong with Song Yan?’
The threat was effective, however. Bai Siqi sat back down in her seat meekly and didn’t move.
When she got off the train, she instinctively glanced toward the exit but didn’t see him. Clearly, he had disembarked long before.
She had no time to dwell on that, however, because the moment Song Yan stepped off the train, waiting police officers took him away.
They took her, too.
Terrified, she cried, "Let go of me! On what grounds are you arresting me?"
"You’re suspected of involvement in human trafficking."
Bai Siqi froze, stunned by the officer’s words.
The accusation made Song Yan snap his head up. "What does that mean?"
But the officers gave him no answer.
They simply escorted the pair away—
The town wasn’t very large, and news that the two of them had been handcuffed and arrested by police at the train station spread like wildfire—
