Reborn Luna (Hope and Keith) novel Chapter 62

35.Her game-1

Hope

I step into the sunlit dining room where the high table is already strewn with plates and chatter. At one long table sat the male suitors, Keith and Ben among them.

There was Marcus, the son of the Alpha of the Sun flare pack, Dorian, a gamma and celebrated enforcer in the Bowling Creek pack, Roland, a sigma from Virelia, said to come from a long line of truth speakers, and Tobin, a quiet, surly beta from the Mercury pack. Prince Camille has yet to be seen amongst us, and the possibilities make my chest clench.

We will find him, my wolf assures me.

Optimistic, aren’t you?

Across from them, at the table Tessa and I were currently occupying, were the females. Rosie and her too bright smile from the Willow pack, June, daughter of the head enforcer from the Silver Fang pack, Ariella, the Mercury pack’s healer’s daughter, and across the end sits Lilith, quiet and watchful, even though she maintains conversation with the others.

The after has been good, if not utterly full. And still no sign of the princess. I try to hide my sight, but I must fail because Tessa elbows me.

“How long are they going to drone on about achievements and status symbols?” She whispers.

“Beats me. I’ve been counting down the minutes until we leave since I finished the lamb,” I say.

I glance over at the male table, and my eyes clash with Keith’s. He wiggles his brows, and I roll my eyes, the ring away from him.

Infuriating male.

“You look restless,” Tessa notes.

“I was hoping to see the prince. I want to see what he knows about the… I pause, looking around. “Well, anything really.”

She nods in understanding.

“I think the fact that he’s barely been present at any of these events gives us an indication of what he knows.” She picks up a forkful of pasta salad and chews on it.

Tessa is right. If Prince Camille is away from the price on his head, it would make sense to make himself scared in this pit of vipers.

“I hear you are to join the Alpha trials, red,” Dorian says. He smiles, on the surface a polite action, but underneath full of condescension.”

The room goes quiet.

Tucking idiot.” I say under my breath

Tessa put down her fork, dabbing the sides of her mouth in a way that shows him just how unimportant he

In the blink of an eye, she goes from casual event goer to commander when she levels her gaze on him.

“That’s interesting. I’ve heard absolutely nothing about you”

Ben laughs. Marcus clears his throat.

“Do you take issue with females in command of Dorian?” Keith asks slowly.

Dorian’s face flattens as he realizes his comment isn’t going to get the reaction he thought it would.

“Of course not. You have to admit that it is odd.”

“What’s odd about it?” I say. “Are all the females in the Bowling Creek pack simpering breeders waiting to present themselves for the first available male?”

Roland choked on his water.

June snorted.

“No! Of course not!” Dorian asserts.

“Then I think it’s safe to assume you’re either sexist or idiotic. Either way, it’s not a good look for you,”

Ariella says.

Dorian goes to speak again, but Torin puts his hand on his chest to shut him up.
