REBORN My Second Life I Became The Villianess novel Nysa and Dario Valteri Chapter 23

I didn't make a single move to pick up the glass. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Nysa watching me like a hawk, waiting. I knew damn well there was something in that juice. She tried that in my last life too. In my last life. In my last life, she poisoned me with her own hands, She had handed me a glass with of juice with a smile and i drank it, and it sent me into the hospital for two weeks.

I didn’t touch the glass. I just leaned back against the cushions of the armchair and went back to pretending to read. Across the room, I could see Nysa starting to fidget. Her fingers tapped restlessly against her knee, and her eyes kept darting back and forth between the glass of juice and me. But I still didn't make a single move. I let her sit there and sweat.

Just then, the front door swung open, and our parents walked in. It was already pushing eight in the evening.

Our mother hurried straight over to Nysa, completely ignoring my presence, whispering something to her with a worried expression. Meanwhile, my father spotted me and walked over, his shoulders dropping a fraction.

"How was your day, sweetheart?" he asked tiredly.

"It was fine, Father," I replied, offering a faint smile. "I just went out and did some shopping."

Before he could reply , one of the house staff appeared in the doorway to announce that dinner was served.

As we all stood up to head toward the dining room, Nysa couldn't hold it in any longer. Panic and desperation cracked right through her calm facade. She stopped in her tracks, turned around with a sickeningly sweet smile, and pointed right at the table.

"Nyxara," Nysa trilled, her voice dripping with fake concern. "Won't you drink your juice?"

I didn't even blink. I looked her dead in the eyes, my expression entirely unbothered.

"I don't drink juice," I replied smoothly. "And actually, I think I'll pass on dinner tonight. I have some urgent work to attend to before we leave for the estate this weekend."

My father glanced over, noting my tone, and simply nodded. "Alright, sweetheart. Don't work too late."

I turned on my heel and headed straight up the stairs to my bedroom, leaving Nysa standing frozen in the foyer with her trap completely ruined.

Once inside my room, I locked the door behind me, tossed my bag onto the bed, and pulled out my secure phone. I dialed Leo's direct line, and he picked up on the second ring.

"Talk to me, boss," Leo answered.

"Did you pull the background file on my mother like I asked?" I muttered, pacing slowly across the rug.

"Yeah, it just came through," Leo said, a smirk practically audible in his voice. "Check your encrypted email right now. You're going to love this."

I hung up, switched over to my encrypted mail client, and opened the newly unzipped P*F attachment labeled CAROLINE_VEXARI_EXPOSED.

I started scrolling, and a dark laugh bubbled up in my throat, echoing quietly in the empty room.

Leo hadn't just found dirt; he had uncovered an entire landfill. For years, while my father was busy building up Vexair Global and his wife had been burning through cash like it was kindling. The file detailed her massive, recurring losses at high-stakes underground gambling dens across the city. But that wasn't even the best part.

Attached were bank statements, hotel receipts, and time-stamped photographs documenting a multi-year affair with a much younger man. She spent lavishly on him, buying him luxury cars, funding his apartment, and sneaking off to private resorts on specific dates every single month. Every transaction, every location, and every alias was neatly cataloged in the dossier.

“Will do ,Boss” he replied.

I hung up, locked my phone, and tossed it onto the nightstand. Nysa had tried to hand me a glass of poisoned juice downstairs, completely blind to the fact that her mother’s entire house of cards was about to collapse on top of both of them.

The next morning, the sunlight streamed brightly through my bedroom windows. I took my time getting ready, slipping into a casual knit sweater and jeans the kind of effortless, wealthy attire suitable for a young woman relaxing before a major family trip.

When I strolled down the grand staircase just past nine in the morning, the atmosphere in the dining room was already active. My father, mother, and Nysa were seated around the table. Nysa looked pale and exhausted, likely agonizing over the fact that her poison stunt had failed and our trip to the Valteri estate was rapidly approaching.

As I pulled out my chair and sat down, my father looked up from his coffee, glancing at the clock on the wall before turning his gaze to me.

"Nyxara," he said, frowning slightly. "Aren't you heading into the office today? It's past nine."

I reached for a cup, pouring myself some fresh coffee before looking up with an easy, unbothered smile. "No, Father. I finished most of my major acquisitions and heavy workload last night, so I decided to take the day off today."

My father paused, considering my words for a moment before his expression softened into an approving nod. "Ah, well, you certainly deserve the break. Especially given everything that's happened this week." he said.

Across the table, my mother shifted uncomfortably, keeping her eyes glued to her plate while Nysa stabbed aggressively at her toast, looking like she wanted to scream.

"Besides," my father continued, wiping his mouth with a napkin as he looked around the table. "Since today is Thursday, we should all use the time to prepare properly. Tomorrow at five o'clock, the Valteri drivers arrive to take us down to the seaside estate. I want everyone packed, composed, and ready."
