REBORN My Second Life I Became The Villianess novel Nysa and Dario Valteri Chapter 41
"Must've just been the wind," Carlton muttered to himself, sounding reassured. "Get some sleep, kiddo."
The floorboards creaked as he retreated, and the soft click of the lock sealed the door behind him.
The second the coast was clear, I shifted and was back on the mattress, boxing her in against the headboard, my shoulders blocking out every trace of light. Her eyes glittered with pure defiance in the dark.
"That was close," I murmured, my voice a low purr against her skin.
Before she could snap at me, I captured her lips again, deeper, greedier, and refusing to let up. Her body went soft under mine, her resistance melting into a hungry, answering heat that made my head spin. When I finally pulled back, my thumb brushed across her swollen, flushed lower lip.
"We're just getting started, little kitten," I whispered into the dark.
The heavy silence of the bedroom had barely settled after I vanished out into the hallway, leaving her flushed, breathless, and entirely rattled in my wake. I walked back down the corridor, the dark, possessive hum in my veins refusing to quiet down. She was mine. She just didn't fully realize it yet, but every wall she tried to build was crumbling piece by piece.
The next morning, I was already seated at the dining table, nursing a cup of black coffee and looking too calm and rested for a man who had spent his midnight hours staking his claim. The double doors swung open, and Nyxara walked in.
My eyes snapped straight to her. She had made a deliberate wardrobe choice: a tight, high-collared black turtleneck pulled all the way up to her chin. A lesser man might have missed it, but I knew every inch of what lay beneath that fabric. I knew the exact shade of the dark, purple bruise I had stamped deep into the sensitive skin of her throat the night before. A slow, smirk pulled at the corner of my mouth. She was trying to hide evidence of the wolf in her room, but the mark was proudly, irrevocably mine.
Nysa, true to form, immediately started whining and snapping across the table like an irritating fly, trying to claw for any scrap of attention. Nyxara didn't even blink.
She completely ignored the screeching parasite, calmly picking up her fork and focusing on her breakfast as if Nysa were nothing more than background noise. I couldn't help the fierce wave of pride that surged through me. She didn't cower. She dominated the room simply by refusing to engage.
Midway through the meal, Carlton cleared his throat and slid a sleek electronic key fob across the table surface toward his youngest daughter.
"Take it," Carlton said, keeping his tone casual. "I had a new car delivered this morning. Something a bit more reliable and suitable for your drive to work."
Nyxara blinked, genuinely surprised, before looking up at him. "Thank you, Father."
Before she could even finish the sentence, Caroline’s voice cut in like jagged glass, dripping with spite and bitter irritation. "Carlton, honestly, I think you're spoiling her a bit too much. First the ride, now this?"
Carlton didn't flinch. He calmly chewed his food, took a slow, measured sip of his coffee, and set the cup down with a soft clink.
"That reminds me," Carlton said, reaching into his suit jacket to pull out a heavy, matte-black titanium card. He slid it right across the table toward Nyxara's plate. "This is yours, too. Buy whatever you want."
Across from them, Nysa’s face dropped so fast she looked like she had just swallowed broken glass. Her eyes darted from the titanium card back to our father, absolute, unadulterated disbelief twisting her features into a mask of pure fury. I guess Carlton could be left alone for now, I didn’t have to ruin him.
"Dad, what on earth is she going to do with that much money?" Nysa snapped, her voice rising in a sharp, petty whine. "She's probably never even seen that kind of cash in her entire life!"
My little kitten didn't take the bait. She didn't lose her cool for a single second. She just took a slow, unhurried sip of her water, raised her chin, and dropped the absolute bomb.
