REBORN My Second Life I Became The Villianess novel Nysa and Dario Valteri Chapter 55
I stopped dead in my tracks, my hands were still gripping the doorknob. Without even thinking about it, my eyes rolled so hard they practically clicked in the back of my head.
"Are you kidding me right now?" I muttered, letting out a dry, exasperated breath.
He didn't flinch or scramble to get up and offer an explanation. He just lay there, slow-blinking at me with those cold, sharp eyes, he was looking too comfortable in a room that was supposed to be my safe haven.
I crossed my arms over my chest, glaring at him across the mattress. "Get out."
He didn't move an inch. He just stared at me, a faint, infuriating smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
"This is my room," I reminded him, my voice dropping into a sharp, no-nonsense register as I stepped further into the suite. "You have an entire wing of your own down the hall. So, Dario. Out." I said but he still didn’t say anything. He just watched me with that heavy, predatory gaze, tracking every single step I took as I marched over to the edge of the bed.
Before I could draw take another breath to yell at him again, he moved with a sudden speed. He rolled off the mattress, fluid and effortlessly, and closed the distance between us before I could even blink.
Before I had a chance to dodge, his hands shot out, gripping my waist and pulling me against his hard chest. I gasped, my hands flying up against his shoulders to push him back, but it was like shoving a brick wall. His eyes flared with sudden, intense heat, and before I could spit out another sarcastic remark, his mouth closed over mine.
It was a deep, commanding, and overwhelming kiss, stealing the air right out of my lungs and leaving me spinning in the middle of my own bedroom.
I shoved my hands hard against his chest, putting all my weight behind the push until I finally managed to break his grip. I stumbled back a half-step, glaring up at him while I caught my breath, my chest was heaving from the sudden rush of adrenaline.
He didn't look angry, or even slightly embarrassed. He just stood there, his hands sliding casually into the pockets of his slacks, with a slow smile spreading across his face.
"You're impossible," I muttered, brushing down the front of my top and trying to force my heart rate back down to normal.
"And you're a terrible liar when you say you hate it," he shot back smoothly, his voice carrying that calm, arrogant edge that drove me up the wall. He tilted his head, watching me with those piercing eyes. "How was your day? Did my mother and grandmother behave themselves, or did you have to put half the city in their place?" he asked.
I leaned back against the cool surface of the bedroom wall, crossing my arms over my chest to put some physical and mental distance between us.
"My day was fine," I answered flatly, keeping my tone guarded. "We went shopping. I got a wardrobe, I survived the socialites at Le Cirque, and I even had a lovely, deeply depressing chat with my father about his marital problems."
He let out a low, amused hum, acknowledging the update without missing a beat. But I wasn't going to let him just waltz into my bedroom, kiss me senseless, and pretend we were playing house. There were still too many moving pieces, too many secrets hiding beneath the surface of this entire arrangement.
I pushed off the wall slightly, narrowing my eyes at him.
"Enough playing games, Dario," I said, my voice dropping into a sharp, serious register. "Let's cut the crap. What exactly are you planning by marrying me?"
He didn't flinch. He just turned around, walked lazily over to my bed, and collapsed backward onto the mattress, kicking his legs up and resting his head on my pillows like he owned the place.
He crossed his arms behind his head, staring up at the ceiling with absolute nonchalance.
"Because I want you," he replied casually, his voice smooth. "And only you."
