Chapter 475: A New Starting Line
Inside the quiet hospital room where Aubrey lay resting, an intense conversation unfolded. The air was heavy with unspoken worries and lingering tension.
Callen’s mind was restless, repeatedly pressing Alpha Henry with the same question: “If she loses her memory, what will you do?” The question circled in his thoughts like a persistent echo. “Tell me. If you don’t answer, I won’t stop asking. I need to know.”
Alpha Henry sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose as if trying to ease the weight of the question. Finally, he spoke, his voice tinged with a mixture of frustration and determination. “What else can I do? I’ll pursue her again, of course.”
Though annoyance flickered across his features, there was no hint of fear. In fact, Alpha Henry’s confidence was unwavering. He believed that if he could make Aubrey fall in love with him once, he could do it again—and even better the second time around. Giving up was never an option for him. He was ready to fight for her love, no matter how many times it took.
Callen’s voice softened, tinged with helplessness as he asked, “And what about our mate? Have you forgotten her already?”
The mention of that powerful female Alpha wolf brought a fleeting image to Alpha Henry’s mind, but he quickly banished it with a shake of his head. “I’ll find her soon enough, and then I’ll reject her.”
Callen muttered under his breath, “Fine, fine. If you’re set on this path, there’s nothing more I can do…” His tone carried a reluctant acceptance. In the past, he would have resisted fiercely, but now, after all this time, he had come to accept Aubrey in some way. There was an inexplicable connection forming between them, something he couldn’t quite explain.
The thought nudged him to ask, “Do you think the Moon Goddess would really assign us two mates?”
Alpha Henry’s response was sharp, almost teasing. “You’re too greedy.”
“I’m not!” Callen shot back quickly. “I just have this feeling that Aubrey is our mate too.”
“Of course she is. And she’s the only one,” Alpha Henry said softly, his gaze falling on Aubrey’s delicate hand. He took it gently in his own, voice low and solemn. “I swear to the Moon Goddess, Aubrey, you are the only one I will ever accept as my mate.”
Charles stood firmly by the bedside, calm but resolute. “Alpha, if you’re struggling to breathe, I can ask a nurse to bring in an oxygen generator.”
Alpha Henry was left speechless, caught off guard by their persistence.
He rose to his feet, casting a sharp look at Charles before meeting Mateo’s gaze. “Do you honestly believe you can win against me?”
Mateo shrugged casually. “How will we know if we don’t try?”
He had stepped back before because Aubrey had made her choice—Alpha Henry. But if she had truly lost her memories and those past feelings no longer held sway, then he owed it to himself to fight for her once more. It wasn’t about being despicable or selfish; it was about hope, about trying again for a chance that might still exist.
