Charles Jennings shook his head, his expression blank. "I’ve already eaten, Cecilia Sterling. You two go ahead."
Seeing his stiffly serious expression, Cecilia couldn’t help but laugh. "From now on, just call me Cecilia. You don’t have to be so formal."
Charles paused for two seconds before nodding again. "Oh, okay, Cecilia Sterling."
Cecilia: "..."
Estelle Goodman had already sat down and, seeing the situation, beckoned to Cecilia. "Don’t mind him. Let’s eat. These golden thread noodles are especially delicious. It’s our housekeeper’s specialty."
As she spoke, she pushed the portion of golden thread noodles in front of Cecilia. "You have this. I’ll have the congee."
The golden thread noodles looked delectable. The broth was clear, dotted with shimmering oil, and accompanied by pan-fried luncheon meat and a few green vegetables. It was a very well-made dish.
"What are you still standing here like a statue for?"
Seeing Charles standing off to the side like a sculpture, just watching them eat, Estelle couldn’t help but knit her brows and speak.
Cecilia also blinked at Charles, who then shifted his gaze to the food containers and said softly, "I want to take the containers back with me later."
"No need. I’m planning to stay here with Cecilia for a few days. You can just take today’s containers back when you bring us breakfast tomorrow." Estelle waved her hand dismissively. "Don’t just stand there. It’s weird."
Her tone was undeniably bossy, just like a rich heiress treating a servant in one of those TV dramas.
If you didn’t know Estelle’s personality, you would definitely think she was just that kind of domineering and spoiled person. But Cecilia understood that Estelle was an incredibly kind girl; it was only when dealing with Charles that her tone and patience wore thin.
This was perhaps related to the two of them growing up together, with Charles constantly by her side, taking care of her.
Subconsciously, she had grown accustomed to their mode of interaction, so she herself was unaware that her attitude could sometimes use improvement, because this was how she had always spoken to Charles.
And it wasn’t just her who was unaware. Even Charles seemed completely immersed in his role, showing no sign of resentment.
"Oh, okay."
He nodded, his expression untroubled, and obediently turned and left.
Cecilia didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at the sight. ’Is this a classic case of one person willing to dish it out and the other happy to take it?’
"Can’t you be a little nicer to him?"
After Charles left, Cecilia couldn’t resist offering a reminder.
Estelle looked at Cecilia blankly. "To whom?"
Cecilia was momentarily speechless and said with a wry smile, "To Charles, of course. Have you not noticed how your tone of voice changes every time you talk to him?"
"It does?" Estelle’s fine brows furrowed, a look of complete cluelessness on her face.
’She really hasn’t realized it.’
Cecilia nodded. "It does!"
"He has to be the most good-tempered guy I’ve ever met. He’s always taking care of you, and he even remembers your time of the month so clearly. But it seems you’ve never said ’thank you’ or anything like that to him."
"Huh?" Estelle was a little stunned by Cecilia’s words. She asked hesitantly, "I haven’t? Did I not say thank you just now?"
Cecilia looked at her and shook her head.
