Evren Lynn’s gesture, however, displeased Linda.
She dug her nails into Evren Lynn’s arm and shot him an angry look.
A single visit to Waterside Pavilion cost at least a dollar per person. With three of them on the other side, the total cost would be enough for her to buy a new handbag.
But Evren Lynn completely ignored her. This was a matter of a man’s pride, not a matter of money.
Besides, he wasn’t short on a few dollars these days.
"That won’t be necessary, Uncle. We’ll pay for ourselves."
Before her mother could refuse, Cecilia cut in, her expression flat.
Seeing this, the receptionist, who had just picked up the membership card, set it back down, looking a bit bewildered.
Evren Lynn chuckled at Cecilia and said casually, "It’s no problem. The minimum deposit to open a membership here is ten dollars. If you don’t come here often, there’s no need."
Jasmine had just mentioned it was their first time here, which clearly meant they’d never been before.
So Evren Lynn subconsciously assumed they were just there for the novelty of it and could never become regulars at a place with this level of prices.
Hearing this, Linda looked even more smug and chimed in for show, "Evren’s right. If you don’t come often, there’s really no need to waste your money."
Yvonne Sterling secretly rolled her eyes. ’This Evren Lynn is putting on a show of warmth for a long-lost friend, but he’s really just showing off how rich he is now, both overtly and subtly.’
’A dog can’t change its ways. He’s just as vain as he used to be.’
’He used to be openly vain, and now he likes to show off casually.’
’Fate must be blind to let a guy like him get rich.’
Cecilia couldn’t be bothered to waste her breath. She turned directly to the receptionist and said, "I’d like to open a membership. I’ll deposit one hundred dollars."
Her words stunned everyone present.
One hundred dollars?
Evren Lynn’s gaze darted subconsciously between Cecilia and Jasmine, his mouth hanging half-open, too slow to react.
Linda’s eyes, meanwhile, were wide as saucers.
Jasmine and her sister Yvonne were also stunned. They knew Cecilia had earned some money over the past year in Lorcain, but no one had asked exactly how much. Now, Cecilia had just casually dropped one hundred dollars, completely shattering the ceiling of what the two sisters had imagined.
They had assumed Cecilia had earned a few dozen dollars at most, but clearly, it was much more than that.
The young receptionist snapped out of it and said quickly, "Of course, ma’am. Please wait just a moment."
She’d been working the front desk at Waterside Pavilion for some time now, and most clients only ever deposited ten or twenty dollars. Even a fifty-dollar deposit was rare.
This was the first time she had ever seen a customer deposit one hundred dollars on their very first visit.
Cecilia filled out the membership card registration with her mother’s information so that in the future, her mom could bring her aunt for hydrotherapy and spa treatments often.
Once everything was processed, Jasmine took the membership card, finally snapping back to reality. Just as she was about to say something, she heard her daughter suddenly say to Evren Lynn, "We’ll be heading in now, Uncle. Goodbye."
It was then that Jasmine realized her daughter was doing this to save her face.
She composed herself, offered Evren Lynn a calm smile, and gave a slight nod. Without another word, she turned and walked away.
