...
Adrian’s voice was hoarse as he uttered, "I was scared..."
Ella froze.
Her eyes widened, her heart thundering in her chest. Adrian, this untouchable man sounded so vulnerable in the moment that she did not know what to say.
She did not know the weird feeling that fluttered in her chest either. As if her heart lake that had sworn to stay unmoved felt a ripple in lifetimes.
Adrian looked at Ella like she would disappear if he took his gaze off.
He had turned his horse around in the middle of the race and that was when he saw the white horse going berserk.
The very possibility that he wouldn’t have turned in time, he couldn’t have caught up to her in time and she would have proceeded to act on her own, risking her life still haunted him.
The sight of her, ready to pull the reins regardless of the consequences was imprinted deep in his mind, clouding it with a darkness he could barely control.
Adrian prided himself for a man who could stay unfazed in dire circumstances.
But, in that instant, his heart dreaded what could have happened to Ella had he not found and stopped her in time.
His voice trembled just as much as his fingers that stroked her cheeks, "I was so scared to lose you, Elle."
Before she could even process the feelings in her heart, something inside her snapped too.
Without thinking, she fisted his clothes and dragged his mouth back to hers.
Her kiss this time was fierce, answering his desperation with her own. But at the same time, also comforting him, as if to remind him she was still there, very much next to him.
Adrian stilled at the way she took the initiative, his heart skipping a few beats.
But Ella did not slow down at all.
She kissed him harder and deeper, biting his lip until he groaned, and when his tongue slid back against hers, she welcomed him like fire to kindling.
Their bodies ground together as though they were trying to crawl under each other’s skin.
His hand slipped down to her thigh, yanking it up around his waist, pinning her tighter against the tree.
Ella moaned into his mouth as her nails clawed down his back, feeling every line of his muscles tense under her touch.
"Elle..." Adrian rasped, groaning her name like a curse and a prayer all at once.
He pressed her higher against the bark, his hips rolling against hers in frantic need.
There was no air between them and barely any sanity.
Just teeth clashing, as their tongues tangled and their lips bruised in a rhythm as if meant for each other.
Their hands entangled with each other as their hearts raced. The two people melded into each other, barely able to stop the madness stirring between them.
Adrian’s hips ground against hers, his hardness pressing urgently between her thighs through their clothes.
The rough friction sent shivers shooting through her, but suddenly he froze.
Adrian’s grip on her thigh tightened, his lips breaking from hers as his breath came out ragged.
His forehead pressed to her temple, jaw clenched so hard it was as if he was about to shatter his own restraint.
"Elle..." he rasped, his voice torn between need and control. "Not here. I can’t—"
Ella did not need him to finish speaking to know what he meant.
Even at this point, when she could feel his need surging through the layers between them, the man was concerned about her. Just like he did earlier in the car.
Ella’s lips curved slightly.
Her nails dragged down his back, pulling him closer, her lips brushing his ear, "Don’t stop."
He stiffened.
She cupped his face in her hands, forcing him to look at her, "Don’t hold back, Adrian. Please..."
Her eyes were shimmering and her voice was pleading with him, "I want you."
Every bit of restraint he had, seemed to slowly shatter into smithereens. Her words scratched his heart like the claws of a kitten, setting his heart ablaze.
Adrian just bent, scooped her up into his arms, and strode deeper into the forest.
Ella was startled, "Where are we going?" she whispered.
Adrian gave her a small, mysterious smirk.
Ella arched her brow.
The man suddenly bounced her up in his arms as if she was made of cotton.
And Ella immediately clung to him, her heart pounding wildly as his powerful frame carried her effortlessly.
In a few moments, they reached a shaded alcove where branches bent low, cloaking the ground beneath in shadows.
