Reborn: The Unwanted Heiress’s Revenge

Chapter 193

“This is the first time I’ve brought a girl home, so they’re curious,” William explained.

First time?

William was almost twenty-five. Could she really be his first girlfriend?

That didn’t seem right.

“What are you thinking about?” William turned to ask.

“Nothing.”

Butler Oscar walked over, glanced at Isabella, then turned to William. “Mr. Everest is here. He’s waiting in the reception room.

William nodded and led Isabella down the hall.

He pushed open the door.

1

Inside sat a man who looked to be around forty.

He jumped to his feet when he saw William. “Mr. Brown-you’re here.”

William pulled out a chair for Isabella, then turned to Lachlan. Mr. Everest, no need to stand on ceremony. Please sit.”

Lachlan looked at William and felt something was off.

This man had always run cold. So why was he practically glowing right now?

Lachlan sat down, slightly unnerved. He looked up-William actually smiling at him-and felt his nerves ratchet up another notch.

Was William sick?

He reached for his coffee cup to take a sip and calm his nerves.

William gestured to Isabella. “Mr. Everest, this is my girlfriend.”

Lachlan choked on his coffee.

He coughed for a solid few seconds.

William could date someone? A young woman, no less?

William didn’t give him time to recover. He had Isabella bring out the vase and jade pendant. “My girlfriend has two collectibles she’s looking to sell. Take a look-what would you say they’re worth?”

Lachlan stared.

If William was vouching for them, they had to be extraordinarily valuable.

He piled up the vase and examined it carefully.

The more he looked, the quieter he got.

It was an ordinary vase. Average at

Nothing he d go out of his way to acquire.

On the open market, this vase would fetch maybe twenty thousand dollars.

“To be honest, Mr. Brown, this vase

William cut in before he could finish. Actually, Mr. Everest. I just remembered last month I came into a painting by Emery McPherson. You know I don’t

collect, so why don’t you take it?”

Lachlan’s eyes went wide.

“Emery McPherson?”

Emery McPherson was a household name in the art world. His paintings never came cheap.

Lachlan had never laid eyes on an Emery McPherson in his life.

William took a sip of coffee. “It’s ‘Whispering Meadows.””

“Whispering Meadows!” Lachlan’s hand hit the table as he shot to his feet, startling Isabella. “That’s his most celebrated work!”

He was barely keeping it together.

“Let me see it-now!”

“There’s no rush.” William stayed calm, nodding toward the vase in Lachlan’s hand. “Finish with the vase and jade pendant first. If things go well today, r have you over to see Whispering Meadows’ next time.”

Lachlan caught himself.

There was something beneath those words.

He sat back down, eyes shifting, and put it together quickly.

ľ

“Right. One thing at a time. He produced a magnifying glass bent over the vase with painstaking attention. With every passing second, his expression twitched a little more.

“Ms. Taylor!” He suddenly looked up at Isabella, practically vibrating.

She flinched. “What?”

“This vase is priceless!”

Isabella blinked at him.

“This vase is a rare treasure extraordinary. Getting to see something like this today was worth the trip alone.

Kabell smiled. “Really?”

William glanced at her with a slight smirk.

Of course it’s true,” Lachlan said gravely “My eye is never wrong.

isabella’s expression shifted. In that case, how much would it sell for?”

Ill pay eight hundred thousand dollars for the vase myself, Lachlan said.

bella looked at William instinctively, her expression asking if she was being played.

ar gave a small nod. The price was fair.

ght. Eight hundred thousand.”

The jade pendant she sold to Lachlan as well, for five hundred thousand, as he suggested.

Wonderful!” Lachlan clutched the vase and pendant to his chest, grinning through what was clearly internal agony.

ne point three million dollars, gone.

Walking out of the reception room, Isabella’s phone buzzed with a transfer notification

She counted the zeros twice and laughed before she could stop herself.

William smiled quietly beside her, then lowered his voice. “Have you eaten yet?”

No.

Stay for dinner.”

abella checked the time. The cafeteria would be closed by now, and ordering delivery felt like a downgradet.

would be rude to say no.

hat do you want to eat? I’ll cook.”

own the hall, a passing maid’s step

faltered.

Had she heard that correctly?

  1. Brown was going to cook?

Don’t you have a chef? Isabella asked.

William raised an eyebrow. You don’t wand my cooking?”
