Reborn to Flee My Fiance's Obsession (Fiona and Soren) novel Chapter 288

Neglected 288 Summary

In this chapter, Fiona pleads silently with Soren not to let her go, though she keeps her voice steady. Soren, deeply emotional and resolute, declares he will do anything to keep her by his side, offering marriage and pledging that everything he has will belong to her. Fiona, however, remains cautious, suggesting that Soren’s feelings might be influenced by gratitude for her saving him and that fate might still have another love for him. Soren insists his love is lifelong and exclusive, rejecting the idea that he could ever love another woman.

Their conversation turns tense as Fiona hints at ambitions of becoming empress, while Soren reveals a ruthless plan to control the realm by manipulating the Crown Prince Zephyr as a puppet. Fiona is shocked by his treasonous words and warns him of the consequences, but Soren remains steadfast, warning her never to surrender herself to Zephyr’s promises. Despite the intensity of their exchange, Fiona senses a wild, feverish edge in Soren that unsettles her but also draws her in.

As exhaustion overtakes her, Fiona retreats to her room, with Soren unwilling to let her go even a few steps alone. Their interaction is tender yet charged, blending duty and deep, complicated emotions. The maid observes their closeness with surprise, noting how different Soren seems when near Fiona. Later, Fiona remains confined within the manor under watchful eyes, unable to find a chance to escape despite her efforts.

The chapter ends with a tense moment as a guard, revealed to be Mr. Xavier, approaches Fiona to escort her home. Although she is torn about leaving, she writes a letter to Soren before attempting to depart. Xavier swiftly incapacitates the guards blocking their way, showcasing his formidable skill. However, Soren’s sudden appearance in striking black attire signals a looming confrontation, leaving Fiona’s heart heavy with uncertainty.

Chapter 288 Fevered Promises

“Soren, please don’t let me go,” Fiona’s heart whispered, though her voice remained steady. The night air was thick with tension, the faint scent of jasmine mingling with the weight of unspoken emotions. Soren’s voice, low and rough as if scraped raw by the depth of his feelings, broke the silence. “Fiona, stay by my side. Whatever your heart desires, I will scour every corner of this realm until it lies safely in your hands.”

He couldn’t — and wouldn’t — release her from his grasp.

“Lord Soren, why must you insist on this?” Fiona asked, her eyelids lowering as she spoke softly, yet with a firmness that refused to be shaken.

His eyes burned with an intensity that seemed to sear through the shadowed room. “I know exactly what I want, and I refuse to lose you. The man I was before failed you, but I am no longer that man. I will never cast you aside. Marry me, and everything I possess will be yours.”

Fiona’s voice was barely a whisper, tinged with quiet conviction. “Fate will lead you to your true love one day, Lord Soren. I believe Hillary still waits for you somewhere, hidden in the folds of destiny.”

“There’s no space left in my heart for anyone else,” Soren said, his tone steady and solemn, like a vow carved in stone. “When I love, it’s for a lifetime. I do not trade affection like coins in a market.”

Having tasted the rare grace that was Fiona, he knew he could never find another woman worthy of even a passing glance.

“You feel you owe me because I saved you,” Fiona countered, her eyes searching his. “But once time dulls that gratitude, you’ll regain your balance. Right now, it’s only natural you want to bind yourself to me in return.”

“Give me time,” Soren said firmly, each word heavy with iron resolve. “I will prove you wrong.”

A faint, almost teasing smile flickered on Fiona’s lips. “And what if I want to be the empress?”

Soren studied her carefully, weighing the risks in his mind. “Emperor Aldric is close to death. Zephyr will soon be named Crown Prince, but he will be nothing more than a puppet in the hands of the Zonfrillo family. You may never sit on the throne, but I can offer you power far greater than any empress has ever wielded.”

His plan was clear and ruthless: raise Zephyr as a pawn, then seize the realm as Regent.

Fiona’s eyes widened in shock. She quickly covered his mouth with her hand. “Are you mad? Treason spills from your lips, and His Majesty would take more than your head for such words.”

Soren gently removed her hand, his gaze unwavering. “Even if you wish to become empress, you must never surrender yourself to Zephyr. Whatever promises he makes, I can match them.”

Fiona dared not provoke him further. The man before her was no longer the dutiful heir concerned with courtly decorum.

“Stop this reckless talk, Lord Soren,” she warned, a cold shiver creeping beneath her skin.

There was a pale, feverish edge to him — something wild and cold that made her heart flutter unevenly.

Soren held her gaze for a long moment before simply saying, “Very well.”

“I need to rest now,” Fiona murmured, exhaustion finally settling like a heavy cloak over her shoulders.

He walked her all the way to the door, unwilling to relinquish even those last silent steps.

The maid, standing quietly to the side, watched in astonishment. The usually composed Mr. Fuller, a man known for his icy restraint, seemed ready to fuse himself with his wife’s shadow.

“Get some sleep first. I still have matters to attend to,” Soren murmured, his voice thick with reluctant tenderness.

A shiver ran through the maid. Even the way he spoke clung like warm syrup — half coaxing, half childlike.
