In the auction hall on the 30th floor of the hotel, Kevin Kent had a glass of red wine in one hand and his other arm around a petite starlet. He wandered around the venue, looking for a chance to chat with someone important.
Kevin Kent was in his fifties. He was in the funeral business and also ran a crematorium. Although he made a decent living before the natural disaster, he was merely well-off, far from being truly rich and powerful.
Later, because of the natural disaster, his business skyrocketed. He’d made a fortune over the past two years and was living the high life.
From the bottom of his heart, Kevin Kent felt that this disaster was a blessing from heaven.
Now that he had accumulated a large amount of seed capital, he was rubbing his hands together, eager to break into other industries. But he lacked connections. He had come to this auction and cocktail party today to see if he could latch onto a big ship.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze sweeping across the venue, looking to see if any big bosses were present.
Suddenly, his eyes were drawn to a familiar figure in a corner—a young girl wearing a pink sweater.
When he got a clear look at the girl’s face, Kevin Kent’s small, beady eyes lit up, and a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth.
The next moment, he let go of the starlet in his arms and strode toward the figure in pink.
He walked straight up to the girl in the pink sweater in the corner and asked, "Hey, little beauty. Are you here alone?"
Although Kevin Kent’s question was an inquiry, his tone was full of malice and utterly sleazy.
Hearing this, Lucy White looked up at the man in confusion. She had assumed it was just someone else trying to hit on her.
But when she got a clear look at the man’s face, her pupils constricted sharply—it was as if she’d seen a ghost, and her heart began to pound uncontrollably!
Seeing the surprise on Lucy White’s face, Kevin Kent became more certain of his suspicions.
He raked his lecherous gaze up and down Lucy White’s body and said in a menacing tone, "Little beauty, have we met somewhere before? ...You look so familiar..."
As he spoke, a sleazy smile spread across Kevin Kent’s face. The fat on his cheeks bunched up, making him look somewhat grotesque.
Lucy White lowered her gaze to hide the panic in her eyes. Suppressing the terror in her heart with all her might, she said, "...Y-You’ve got the wrong person. I don’t know you!"
With that, she turned to leave.
But unexpectedly, Kevin Kent took two steps forward, blocking Lucy White’s path.
To Lucy White’s surprise, he sneered and said in a mocking tone, "Stop pretending! You’re ’Louise,’ aren’t you?"
Hearing the name "Louise" come from Kevin Kent’s mouth, Lucy White’s heart sank—she knew he had recognized her!
Kevin Kent chuckled sleazily. He reached out a fat hand and pinched Lucy White’s cheek, lowering his voice to say, "Louise, I haven’t seen you since that incident at The Crestview Hotel. It’s been so long, but I’ve been thinking about you..."
"What, are you selling yourself at The Nimbus Hotel now? ...Heh heh, give me a room number. I’ll drop by tonight and give you some business..."
The sickeningly damp and hot sensation on her cheek, mixed with the stench of smoke and alcohol on his breath, made Lucy White want to retch.
She violently shoved away the hand Kevin Kent had on her cheek and said in a trembling voice, "Don’t touch me! I told you, I don’t know you at all!"
