Chapter 215

The party store was busier than I’d expected for a Friday morning. I grabbed a cart and started working my way through my list, tossing packages of dinosaurthemed plates and napkins into the basket.

I was reaching for a pack of green streamers on a high shelf when someo that?

That would be great, actually,I said, turning to thank whoever had offered to help.

The man standing behind me had brown hair and hazel eyes, a slender nose and diamondshaped face. Tall, slim but not too skinny….

It was like looking into a mirror and seeing a reflection of myself as a male.

Recognition flickered deep inside of me as I watched the man reach overhead and grab the streamers I’d been struggling to reach. When he handed them to me, he flashed me a smile that seemed strangely familiar.

Here you go.

I realized I’d been staring, and quickly cleared my throat. UhThanks.

No problem. He paused, studying my face with the same intensity I was probably showing. Do weHave we met before?

I don’t think so.But even as I said it, I wasn’t sure. There was something about him that felt like deja vu, like looking into a funhouse mirror that showed me a different version of myself.

But before I could say anything, his phone rang. He gave me another one of those strange smiles before he turned and walked away, answering it.

And then he was gone, disappearing into the crowd of shoppers.

I stood there for several moments, confused and perturbed. But ultimately, I shook my head, making the notion that this strange man I’d just randomly met in a party store could be related to me.

That was ridiculous; people shared similar traits without being related all the time, and besides, it wasn’t as if my particular traits were very special. If anything, I probably looked like a lot of people with my generic appearance.

Without thinking much more of it, I shook off the strange encounter and finished my shopping. I picked up a few more supplies before checking out and heading home. I should have enough time to decorate and get everything set up before the guests started arriving.

But when I pulled into the driveway, I noticed that Damon’s car was sitting there. That was strange; he was supposed to keep the twins out of the house until the party actually began, ensuring that they didn’t know about their surprise.

Frowning, I put the car in park and balanced the bags on my arms, struggling up to the front door. Before I even
