I bit my lip, considering David’s words. It didn’t sound all that unfamiliar; rogues had been organizing more in the territories as of late, too. I couldn’t help but think back to those days I’d been held captive in that rogue encampment. There had to have been at least thirty rogues in that one place, although I assumed they had scattered after Mila took out their de facto leader.

David noticed my faraway expression, and I explained everything to him. As he listened about my time in that camp, his eyes widened further and further. By the time I was finished, we had found ourselves seated on one of the nearby benches, watching an arm–wrestling match in the distance, and he had his hand resting comfortingly on my shoulder.

“That’s very strange indeed,” David mused, his voice soft and contemplative now. “And very concerning. But most of all, I’m glad you escaped.”

“I wouldn’t have, if it hadn’t been for Mila, Andrei, and Damon,” I admitted softly.

A shadow passed over David’s face at the mention of Andrei, but he didn’t say anything. “Anyway,” I went on, I’m stronger now. I’ve continued my training and I’m a lot more confident in my skills.”

David’s brows shot up. “You train? I’d like to see your abilities firsthand. If you’re interested in sparring with me, anyway.”
