Chapter 262

I woke with a smile on my face and the warm sensation of an arm wrapped around my bare midsection. Turning, I met familiar green eyes already open and looking at me..
“Are you in the habit of watching me sleep now?” I teased.
Andrei’s lips twitched. “I only just woke up myself,” he admitted. Beneath the blankets, he took my hand and showed me the evidence of his morning arousal, proof of his recent waking. I grinned, giving his member a light squeeze to which he groaned deep in his throat–before I sat up.

“As much as I’d love a repeat of last night,” I said, swinging my legs over the edge of the bed and standing, “I’m supposed to meet David for training soon.”
Andrei sat up behind me. In the mirror, I caught a glimpse of him running his hand through his dark hair. It had grown a little longer lately, indicating that he hadn’t had much time to trim it. But I liked the new length. It suited him well.
“Mind if I come with you?” he asked. “It’s not like I’ve got much to do around here, and I’m curious to see more of the Bloodmoon military.”
“Of course.” I reached into the wardrobe and withdrew the simple but comfortable training uniform that David had given me a pair of linen pants that were loose around the legs but fitted at the ankles, and a wraparound top that was both airy and practical. “Get dressed. My new drill sergeant doesn’t like it when I’m late.”
A little while later, Andrei and I stood in the center of the arena at one of the many sparring rings. The arena rang out with the sounds of early–morning training. Grunts, shouts, and the sounds of weapons clashing echoed through the vaulted ceilings overhead. The air smelled like sweat, leather, and the coppery tang of blood.
Karl didn’t come today, not that I expected him to after our kiss. I hoped to get a chance to talk to him at some point and clear things up.
Andrei was leaning against a nearby post, watching with interest as David and I tussled in the ring. David had me practicing with that curved, short sword again today, although he had just knocked it from my hands and was currently trying to block me from picking it up.
“It’s all in the wrist,” he was saying, flourishing his weapon every time I tried to reach for mine. “The curve of the sword allows for quick, arcing movements. One flick is all it takes to disarm your enemy. But too loose of a grip can also make it easier to be disarmed, so there needs to be a balance.”
I hissed through my teeth, lunging for my sword just as David swung at me. Somehow, I managed to wrap my fingers around the hilt and roll, coming up just in time. Our swords clashed with a metallic clang, catching on the curves before David’s could connect with my shoulder.
“Nice.” David nodded, grinning, and stepped away. “Let’s take a quick break.”
Out of breath now, I gratefully accepted the break and made my way over to where Andrei was standing. “This fighting style suits you,” he said as I chugged my water, cool droplets running down my neck and into my shirt. ” I can tell it’s in your blood.”
I couldn’t help but smile at that. “If I were to use it in the territories, I think it might be useful. No one else that I

know of uses this particular style.” I shot him a meaningful glance. “Especially not rogues.”
Andrej’s eyes guttered briefly at the mention of the strange movements of the rogues lately, but he quickly perked up when I invited him to spar with me. We took our places in the center of the sparring ring, no weapons this time, and began to circle one another.
