Chapter 268
For a moment, I wasn’t sure what to say to that. I understood where Andrei was coming from, but also… It made
no sense.
“But I told you where I want to go,” I murmured. “With you. Wherever you and the twins are–that’s home to me. Why can’t you believe me?”
Andrei’s jaw ticked. “Because you spent so long hating me that I fear you’ll start hating me again.”
My heart burned at his words. Not out of anger or frustration or even fear, but out of understanding. Because I knew exactly what he was saying. What he was feeling.
“Andrei,” I said softly, “I love you. I can’t hate you again.”
Andrei looked at me, and I swore I saw his face light up a fraction. “You mean that.”
I nodded. The small giggle that bubbled out of me couldn’t be helped. “Of course I do, you big oaf. I’m not going anywhere. Never again.”
Andrei’s laugh matched my own. Without speaking, he leaned forward and slanted his mouth over mine. His lips tasted of blood and sweat, a strangely sweet and heady mixture. When we finally pulled back, we were both breathless and wanting more.
“I guess I have been a jealous brute,” Andrei admitted, leaning his forehead against mine and shutting his eyes. “I’m sorry. I’ll try not to be so insecure.”
I shook my head. “It’s normal. And if it’s any consolation, I’d be jealous, too, if you kissed someone else.”
Andrei snorted and leaned back, flicking my forehead. “Incorrigible,” he teased as I rubbed my now–sore head. But we were both laughing.
A few minutes later, we returned to the others. David and the warriors were scouring the camp in search of anything useful, but there was nothing of note; just the standard weapons, gear, and food. The only outstanding thing was the sheer number of rogues in this encampment.
“We kept one alive for questioning,” David explained, gesturing to a rogue at the back with his wrists tied, being led by two Bloodmoon warriors. “Usually, we just kill them all, but… I think the size of this encampment warrants some interrogating.”
“Good luck with that,” Andrei scoffed. “I tried interrogating a captured rogue from the border breach and learned very little.”
David lifted a brow. “Well, then you must not be questioning hard enough. Here in Bloodmoon, we do things differently.”
Before Andrei could respond, David walked away, leading the group back toward the compound. Andrei shot me a look, and I patted his back.
“He’ll grow on you,” I reassured him.
Andrei grunted. “It’s the other way around that I’m worried about.”
