Chapter 279
“I know you know something.” I held the knife to the side of her throat. “I really don’t want to start cutting, Lilith. But you’re definitely withholding information and I’m tired of fucking around while my people are in danger.”
Lilith stiffened, eyes flicking to the knife. I swore I saw something like recognition flash across her gaze before
she had a chance to hide it.
“Where did you get that knife?” she blurted out. Her voice was trembling, and I had a feeling it had nothing to do with the cold.
I pulled back a little and held the knife up, turning it this way and that so the stones in the hilt caught the light. It was a nasty–looking knife with a slightly curved tip. And it was very sharp, especially for a rogue weapon.
“One of the rogues in Bloodmoon was carrying it. Seemed pretty attached to it, actually,” I said, shooting her a curious glance. “Why?”
“No reason.”
“Really? Because you went very pale just now.” I turned the knife over. And over. Ensuring that devastatingly sharp blade glinted in the torchlight.
Lilith was quiet for a long moment. Then she sighed and looked away, jaw ticking.
“If I tell you something, will you get rid of that knife?” she bit out.
I blinked, surprised. “You… what?” I asked, incredulous. “You want me to-”
“Get rid of that knife.” Her throat bobbed, eyes misting briefly with tears before she quickly blinked them away. Whatever her connection to this knife was… It seemed to be emotional in origin. Not fear, but sadness. One that was deep and unending. “I don’t want to see it again and I don’t want it in your hands.”
I stared at her for a moment, genuinely unsure if she was fucking with me or not. But deciding to humor her, I set the knife aside and held my hands up.
“Tell me what you know,” I said.
Lilith hesitated for a long while–so long, in fact, that I thought she must truly be fucking with me or playing into my empathetic side to get her way.
But finally, she croaked out, “I’ll tell you where the rogue encampment was that I was held prisoner in all those years ago. You might find what you’re looking for there.”
My brows shot up. “What about it? What’s there?”
She shook her head. “I can’t say. Just… Get me a map.”
I wasn’t entirely sure if I believed her, but I gestured to Mila, who was standing outside the cell. Mila scurried off and returned a moment later with one of our tactical maps of the territories. I cut the ropes tying Lilith’s right hand to the chair and handed her a pen, holding the map up.
“Put an X where the encampment was,” I said.

Lilith shot me a withering glare, but marked the spot on the map. “There,” she said, chucking the pen to the floor with such force that it broke on impact. “Can I get warm now, or are you going to keep dumping water on my head?”
