Chapter 315
Damon was on his knees now, one hand pressed against the gaping wound in his chest. Blood was seeping, between his fingers. Far too much blood. He stumbled down onto one knee, then the other, no longer able to hold up his own weight.
Letting out a string of vile curses, I dropped to a crouch in front of him and grimaced at the sight of his wound, but lied anyway, “You’re gonna be fine.”
“Like hell I am.” Damon’s face was already ashen, and it wasn’t from the ash that was falling from the sky,” Bastard got me good.”
I looked around the courtyard. The tide of battle was turning in our favor–more of our warriors had arrived, and we were slowly pushing the rogues back. But Damon needed a medic immediately,
“Can you walk?” I asked.
“Don’t think so.” Damon tried to push himself up and immediately collapsed again. “Nope. Everything’s going sideways.”
I sheathed my sword and pulled Damon’s arm across my shoulders, hauling him to his feet. “Just keep pressure on it,” I told him as we stumbled toward the main house. “We’re going to get you to the medical wing”

“Over here!” one of the medics called when she saw us. “Put him on the table. What kind of weapon was it?”
“Axe.” I lowered Damon onto the examination table, and the medic immediately began cutting away his ruined armor to get a better look at the wound. “How bad is it?”
The medic’s expression was grim as she examined the gash across Damon’s chest. “The axe cut deep. Thankfully, it looks like it missed his heart by a couple of inches, but I think it may have nicked an artery. I need to stop the bleeding before he loses any more blood.”
“Do whatever you have to do.”
For hours, the medics worked tirelessly to staunch the bleeding and sew up Damon’s wound. But there was heavy internal bleeding, and his wolf was asleep, unable to provide healing in his current state of pain and
exhaustion.
Eventually, as he went under for a second operation, I couldn’t stand there any longer, so I decided to venture out to survey the damage. The battle had long since ended, our numbers having somehow managed to push the rogues back before they made it too far inside the house itself, but the destruction was unlike anything I’d
