Chapter 379

Natalia’s POV

Andrei had been ambushed.

The scout said he ran all the way to Moonshadow, without stopping, the moment it happened. He said there were waves of rogues, but what stood out to me the most was the ruby arrow.

Trained Bloodmoon warriors. With ruby weapons.

Andrei and Damon were prepared, but perhaps not enough. The moment the scout told me what happened, I jumped into action.

Prepare a squad of Moonshadow’s best warriors,I ordered Mila as we rushed through the corridors. We’ll need at least twenty of the biggest and strongest. More if we can spare them.

Mila nodded. We can’t leave Moonshadow completely unprotected, but I can spare thirty warriors.

Thirty is good. Make it thirtyone.

Mila froze and turned to me, grabbing my wrist. Natalia, you’re not seriously considering-

I have to.I lifted my chin. I should have gone already.

But Moonshadow needs you. You’re the Luna!Mila protested.

She was right, of course. I had a duty to Moonshadow, and I shouldn’t be leaving it without a leader during a time like this. But what choice did I have? The Beta can run the pack in my stead,I said firmly.

I turned on my heel then and stormed off, ignoring Mila’s concerned calls. My heart pounded, pulse racing, wolf raging. My mate was in trouble. He needed us.

As I took the steps two at a time to the second floor, I lifted my hand, grazing my fingers across the freshly- formed mate mark there. Andrei had only just given it to me the night before he left.

All these years of waiting. Of wishing I had the fullyformed bond that my soul so desperately needed.

I couldn’t bear for it to go quiet now. If my mate died, then I wasn’t sure if I could stand it.

No. I needed to be with Andrei.

I burst into the bedroom and reached for my leathers. The stiff material was uncomfortable across the slight swell of my belly, but I managed to tighten everything. I then grabbed my knife from the bedside table, feeling the weight of it in my palm for a moment.

The knife was hungry. I could feel its energy pulsing through my skin. Between us, the constant flow of fear and vengeance was like the ebb and pull of a tide. The knife’s hunger fed my terror, and my terror only made the knife more desperate for blood.

Gritting my teeth, I slipped the knife into the sheath at my hip and turned to leave.

But before I could make it to the door, I gasped, doubling over. I gripped the back of a nearby chair and clutched my stomach in pain.

A wave of morning sickness so intense came over me that I barely made it to the bathroom before I was retching up the contents of my stomach. The baby twisted in my belly, and for those moments, I could feel itthe anxiety. The fear.

Not my own, but my child’s.

Max and Jane, hearing my gags and groans, came running into the room. Jane gasped. Mommy! Are you okay!

Yes, dears.I waved them away, even as I dunked my head into the toilet bowl to gag again. Mommy’s justA littleUnwell.

Mommy, you should lie down,Max said firmly, grabbing my arm. I resisted, but he yanked more urgently, and finally I stumbled over to the bed and collapsed. I felt empty. Exhausted. The baby had stopped twisting, but I could feel its worry through the bond we shared.

A few minutes later, the medic arrived. So did Mila. Her face was drawn and pale as the medic checked my belly and vitals.

Luna, a rogue horde broke through the wall,Mila said urgently. There must be at least a hundred. We have to act quickly.

My heart lurched, but I nodded. With Max and Jane here, I didn’t want to scare them. How long do we have?

An hour at the most before they arrive at the estate.

I’ll drive out to the wall with you-

I’m sorry, Luna, but you should rest, the medic cut in. You’re weak after that vomiting spell. I fear the anxiety will harm the baby and you.

I clenched my jaw, glancing at Mila. Her expression brooked no argument. I was fucking pregnant. What was I thinking? And the twins were terrified.

Finally, I nodded. “Mila, you’re in charge of the battle. And I want the civilians evacuated to the catacombs.

As for Andrei’s reinforcements?she asked.

It pained me to say it, but I shook my head. Not yet. We need all the manpower we can get.
