The smile on Calvert’s lips deepened. He was rarely in such a good mood as now. “What? Did you really believe that? Someone like you who always talks nonsense actually got deceived by me?”
Ash was speechless.
What a fool she had been. She didn’t even have the slightest doubt about Calvert’s words just now.
She really thought that Calvert’s watch had a recording function, and she was even convincing herself that it was normal for someone like Calvert to have recorded the conversation.
The more she thought about it, the more annoyed she became. She suddenly raised her foot and childishly stepped on his shoe. She snorted. “Now, keep the evidence that I stepped on you. You should take off your shoe and keep it as a sample.”
After saying that, Ash completely forgot that the two of them were connected by a rope at their waists. She started to walk forward. She had just taken a few steps when she was instantly bound by the force of gravity, pulling her backwards. She lost her balance and stumbled backwards, falling firmly into Calvert’s arms.
His hands supported her back firmly, and a smug look appeared in his eyes. “We are tied to the same rope, so we can’t act alone. This is what happens when you act recklessly.”
Ash stood up. “How childish! Why are you so childish? Calvert, you’re really childish.”
Calvert wasn’t annoyed. Instead, his expression was gentle. “Oh.”
In a quarrel, what one was most afraid of was the other party’s cold response.
And Calvert was such a person. He would accept whatever Ash said about him, responding with just an “oh.”
In an instant, she couldn’t be bothered to say anything.
There was no point in arguing with Calvert. She would only make herself angry.
The two had barely walked for half an hour when the sky began to turn gloomy. Just as Calvert had expected, the rain was about to fall.
Calvert reminded Ash with a serious face, “We need to speed up and try to get back to the ground before it rains.” At present, the two of them were still halfway up the hill. If it rained, it would be very dangerous.
Ash didn’t retort. “But didn’t you notice that our return route seems to be a little different? There weren’t so many turns before, and the sign just now seemed to have been tampered with.”
She looked around and felt that everything around her was unfamiliar. She didn’t seem to have passed by here before.
Calvert opened the map and looked at it again. “We are on the left side of the original road. Turn right, and we will return to the original road at the next intersection. Don’t look at the signs anymore. Just look at the map.”
“Okay.” Ash felt that her body was getting heavier and heavier, and it was a bit difficult to lift her feet.
She took a deep breath. She was quite physically fit. Walking these roads shouldn’t have made her so tired. She wondered if there was something wrong with her lunch.
But Calvert ate exactly the same food as her, and it seemed that he was still in high spirits. He didn’t seem tired at all. She didn’t know what was wrong with her.

“We have to get out within half an hour.”
The wind was getting stronger and stronger. Calvert glanced at the map. If they hurried, they could probably make it in half an hour.
