Jade walked in, carrying a tray with two cups of coffee.

“Excuse me, here’s the coffee that was just delivered–one warm for Ash, and the other… Calvert, it’s for you,” she said, pausing briefly as she called out Calvert’s name.

Ash glanced at Jade with a meaningful look. “The waiter was supposed to bring it in. This is something you shouldn’t be doing yourself.”

“The waiter didn’t come in because he was afraid of disturbing you. That’s why he left it here. You two drink it, and I’ll leave.” Jade’s tone was unusually polite and composed.

Ash raised an eyebrow. “Deliberately bringing us coffee, then rushing out? The waiter could’ve just done that. It almost feels like we think of you as a waitress.”

“I thought you’d be too busy shooting today to come here,” Ash continued, reaching out and patting the empty seat beside her. “It’s been a while. Why don’t we chat for a bit?”

Jade stood still, meek and obedient. To an outsider, it would seem as though Ash was bullying her. “Ash, it’s not necessary. Mom specifically told me that you may need to rest, and my being here might disturb that.”

“We’re not exactly going to rest or sleep,” Ash replied. “We don’t need total quiet, and talking can be a way to relax. Come on, sit down.” Ash insisted.

Jade smiled faintly, her lips curling slightly. “Alright. Since you don’t mind, I’ll stay. It has been a while, and we haven’t really had a proper chat.”

“I’ll leave then.” Calvert clearly didn’t want to get caught in the middle of their conversation. With the ‘sisterly chat‘ about to start, it felt awkward for him to stay.

Ash stayed behind, her eyes narrowing slightly as she turned toward Calvert. “No, you’re not doing anything at the moment. Why not join us for a while?”

‘No, Calvert refused firmly, without hesitation.

Calvert insisted on leaving, so Ash didn’t say anything more. Soon, Ash and Jade were alone in the lounge. The atmosphere was tense, with an uncomfortable undercurrent hanging in the air.

Jade’s mind raced as she wondered what Ash was up to.

She stayed silent, waiting for Ash to speak.

“How’ve you been? How’s the movie shoot going?” Ash asked, her tone surprisingly warm, almost like a really good sister to Jade.

Jade forced a smile, but the small talk made her feel uneasy, and a chill ran down her spine. “Pretty good, everything’s fine. And you? With the company now under your management, how’s it all going?”

“It’s alright,” Ash answered, her fingers lightly tapping the armrest of the sofa. “I heard you were the star and the shooting champion at all the family gatherings before. Why’d you show up so late today, though? Just in time for the match to end?”

Jade responded smoothly, her voice less formal than before. “I had to add an extra scene. The actor I’m working with was going to complete shooting, so it delayed me a bit. I was supposed to be here earlier.

Jade then continued to say, “I didn’t expect to find you injured right when I arrived. In past years, people would get hurt, but t was usually caused by a wrestling accident. But a snake bite? This was very rare.”

We won’t be holding any more family gatherings here in the future,” Jade added with a sad smile, glancing at Ash’s injured inkle. “Mom and Dad were heartbroken too. Do you want me to get you a bench to prop up your foot? It might help a little.”

Ash didn’t refuse and nodded. “Sure, that would help. Raising my foot will improve blood circulation. Thank you.”

ade quickly stood up and brought over a bench for Ash to put her foot up.

It feels like this is the first time we’ve really talked calmly, doesn’t it?” Ash said, leaning back and settling into a more omfortable position. “It seems like there’s always been conflict and misunderstanding between us since the moment we net.”

ade appeared emotionless, and Ash’s words left her feeling increasingly confused. She couldn’t quite figure out what Ash vas thinking.

Ash, it’s true that I got carried away in the past and did some things I regret,” Jade began. “I’m grateful that you, Mom, Dad, nd everyone else were able to forgive me and give me another chance.”

Ash offered a faint smile, the corners of her eyes lifting. “I’m not trying to hold anyone accountable–the past is the past, and here’s no point in dwelling on it. What matters now is the present and the future.”

ade turned her head slightly to meet Ash’s gaze, her demeanor calm. A perfect smile tugged at her lips. “Yes, I think you’re ight, Ash.”

I should really talk to you more if we have time in the future. You know so much more than I do, and I’ve always been lependent on others at home. I’m young and inexperienced, and don’t know about the ways of the world sometimes, so I eally appreciate your patience and care,” she said.

Ash was on the verge of giving Jade a congratulatory applause. It was a masterful performance, one worthy of a best newcomer award. There was no denying Jade’s acting skills.

The reason she kept Jade staying was to get more information from Jade, but Jade had progressed faster than she’d expected -far better than before. The days of pretending were over. Now, no matter when or where, Jade wore her false mask without aking it off.

Ash found this increasingly interesting. Jade had leveled up, and now dealing with her was more of a challenge. It was a far cry from Samantha, who would only be shrewish and make a scene all the time.

If Samantha had learned even half of what Jade had, she wouldn’t be in this mess now,

“Good,” Ash said, “We’re family, and it’s natural to take care of each other. I used to have some strong opinions about you, though…” she paused, sneezing dramatically to shift the topic. “Could you ask your brother–in–law to come in and give me his jacket? I’m feeling a bit cold.”
