Chapter 148
Asher’s POV
My stick slammed into Kael’s with enough force to make my bones rattle and spine jar. If the stick hadn’t been specially made for shifters, it would’ve splintered at the first hit.
But even the bite of pain at the contact wasn’t enough. It felt like I’d need someone to slice me open and remove an organ to put a dent in the anger and frustration swirling through me at the moment.
And if I was honest, the frustration had a distinctively sexual undercurrent.
As if just admitting that had conjured her out of nothing, a hint of Raven’s scent teased my nose. I didn’t even avert my gaze, but it was enough of a distraction that my guard slipped for just a second. Kael’s stick smacked me right across the face.
“Fucking hell,” I snarled, cupping my nose.
“Shit,” Kael muttered. “Is it broken?”
“Yes,” I barked, but the word was slightly muffled. I grabbed my nose and snapped it back into place, cursing up a blue streak.
Kael leaned against his stick, studying me. “Not like you to drop your guard.”
“Shouldn’t you be apologizing?”
He shrugged like the asshole didn’t have a care in the world. “You dropped your guard.”
I let out a snarl, putting my stick back on the rack and grabbing my water to wash down the taste of blood in the back of my throat.
“It’s almost like something distracted you,” Kael said.
“Fucking sage and breeze,” I muttered under my breath.
A grin spread across his face. “I knew it. You’re so gone for her.”
“I am not,” I snapped.
Kael’s lips twitched. “Tell your nose that, I bet it’s gonna have a different opinion.”
“Bugger off,” I clipped as I stalked out of the gym.
“You don’t have the cute accent to pull that off,” he called after me,
Whatever.
I stalked down the hallway, not even realizing what my wolf was doing until it was too late. I was following Raven’s scent. By the time I figured it out, I was at the edge of the guestroom that belonged to her,
She still had most of her belongings down here. We all needed a space that was ours alone, just like we needed somewhere that was ours to come together. The only problem was that I could hear water running in Raven’s room.
But that didn’t stop me. My wolf had the reins now, and he wanted his mate. The one with the sage-and-breeze scent. I pushed her door open and headed for the bathroom.
Raven was everywhere here. It was like her scent was burned into the floor, the furniture, the air itself. But none of that was anything compared

to what I saw when I reached the bathroom door. It wasn’t open wide, just cracked four or five inches. But through the sliver, I saw a massive
mirror that reflected the shower.
There was the kind of beauty I’d never seen before.
All tan skin, slick with water. Honed muscle and endless curves. Her head tipped back, exposing her throat as the stream surrounded her, and
