Chapter 16
Caden sat behind the desk in the pack house, spinning a pen in his fingers.
“What did he say?”
Killian recounted Rowan’s plan in detail.
“Rowan wants us to wait for the next rainy day. Once Evelyn’s car is parked in the lot, we can tamper with it.”
After a pause, Killian’s voice lowered.
“Rowan has been very clear. He wants us to make sure it’s as lethal as possible, to ensure Evelyn is
done for in one go. If we succeed, he’ll pay us an extra $300,000.”
Caden’s pen stopped spinning, and a cold glint flashed in his eyes.
“How generous of him.”
Killian was startled by the icy edge in Caden’s usually impassive voice. He hesitated for a moment, surprised that Caden hadn’t concealed his emotions.
“How should we proceed then?”
Caden thought for a moment before responding.
“Make minor adjustments to the car. I’ll handle the rest.”
He would arrange for a substitute to drive Evelyn’s car, creating the illusion of a fatal accident.
“Understood, Alpha.”
Five days later, Crisantia was drenched in rain.
In the morning, Evelyn drove her car into the parking lot, parked it, and walked towards the elevator in her high heels.
From a distance, Rowan watched her retreating figure and called Killian.
“Wait for fewer people around later. Clear the nearby staff, and you can make your move.”
“Understood.”
As the crowd thinned, Killian and Theo, dressed in black clothes, masks, and hats, sneaked over to
Evelyn’s car.

They pried open the hood and tampered with it before sneaking away.
Once they left the parking lot, Killian texted Rowan
“It’s done.”
Rowan nodded.
“The final payment has been sent. If you can deal with Evelyn in one go, the extra $300k will be
transferred to your account.”
“Thanks.”
In the afternoon, cars began to leave the parking lot
Rowan waited inside his car, watching as ‘Evelyn’ walked slowly into the parking lot.
She climbed into the car and started the engine, heading home.
Rowan immediately followed her.
Behind the wheel, ‘Evelyn’ squinted at the rearview mirror and drove for a while. Then, on a quiet downhill road, she swiftly turned the wheel.
The car skidded, spinning three times before crashing straight into a tree.
Within moments, the front of the car was engulfed in flames.
Rowan grinned, pulled out his phone, snapped a photo, and drove off nonchalantly.
Half an hour later, Rosalie and Silas rushed to the Wolf Medicine Clinic, and they posted an obituary
online.
OBITUARY
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Evelyn Varnell, the future Alpha of the Soulstone Pack, who tragically lost her life in a car accident on January 21, 2025, at 4:08 PM, at the age of 27.
She was a kind, loving, and life-affirming person, and her laughter and love will remain in our hearts forever.
May our beloved daughter rest in peace in heaven. If there is an afterlife, we shall be mother and daughter again.
This obituary caused quite a stir.

When Natalia saw the screenshot of the obituary sent by Rowan, she paced excitedly in the living room, laughing maniacally.
“Finally, the obstacle is gone! Evelyn, don’t blame me. If you have to blame someone, blame yourself for blocking my path!”
When Dante received the news, he was in the middle of a late-night pack meeting.
His eyes reddened instantly; his large frame trembled violently. The “fated mate” brand on his palm burned as if scalded, bleeding where his nails dug in.
It felt as though something had been ripped away from him. He and Dex screamed almost hysterically:
“Impossible! It’s impossible!”
How could Evelyn be dead?
For the first time, Thorne saw Dante lose control in front of the elder wolves. Realizing something was wrong, he glanced at Dante’s screen.
When he saw the obituary, he froze for a few seconds before quickly ordering the wolves to leave.
“Dante, my condolences.”
“Is Evelyn really dead?”
Thorne nodded silently.
“Evelyn, I’m sorry…” Dante muttered to himself. He turned bloodshot eyes to Thorne:
“Book me the fastest flight to Crisantia. I need to see her one last time.”
As the words left his mouth, Natalia appeared frozen in the hospital doorway.
She stared at Dante, who was on the verge of a complete breakdown, her eyes dark and unreadable.
Back then, when she had made the firm decision to leave him, he hadn’t fallen apart like this…
What was so special about Evelyn?
Natalia stepped in front of Dante, grabbed his hand, and broke down in hysterical frustration: “You’re going to Crisantia? Evelyn is already dead! What’s the point of going now? If you leave, you’ll come back with nothing-not a dime to your name!”
Dante suddenly raised his head, eyes burning with fury, and violently shook her hand off.

He stood and, without warning, grabbed her by the throat, yanking her close.
Natalia was frightened by the dark menace in his eyes.
品
Their faces were inches apart. Dante glared at her, tightening his grip on her neck: “If you hadn’t stopped me, if you hadn’t kept me from going to Evelyn, we would’ve made up a long time ago! She never would’ve gotten into that car accident!”
“You’re the reason she’s dead! You killed her, Natalia! And after you give birth, I’ll make you wish you were dead!”
“You’d better pray that you deliver the baby safely because I never know when I might get tired of looking at you and decide to get rid of you.”
His mice was ruthless Nataka trembled uncontrollable, too terrified to say a word.
When Carts final let go, she watched his cold, determined figure walk away
She collarsed to the ground, eyes full of panic and hatred.
‘sorer-everything’s over.”
She had planned for everything, except this. She hadn’t expected Dante to know that leaving would strip him of everything his money, his position, his pack
And he still chose to gol
No. If Dante reached Crisantia, the agreement would take effect, and he’d be useless to her.
She had to make up with Rowan.
Be might be an illegitimae dild, but at least he was still better off than Dante who would be a broke, disgraced Alpine with nothing left to his name.
Natalia acted quickly. She picked up her phone and called Rowan, her voice sweet and delicate:
When are you coming back?
The new afamoon Evelyn’s funeral was held under a gray, drizzling sky.
Rosalie and Silas carried Evelyn’s portrait into the hall. Many people had come to pay their respects.
Dante arrived in a rush. His beard was unshaven, his face weary and hollow. He looked like he had
aged ten years overnight.
Tinside, he staggered toward the altar and dropped to his knees in front of Evelyn’s coffin.
“I’m sorry, Evelyn… I came too late….
He choked out the words, his voice trembling. “I shouldn’t have indulged Natalia….. I should’ve come to Crisantia to find you right away.”
“Evelyn… wake up, please? Just open your eyes…. look at me…”
The guests around him were stunned.
Rosalie and Silas stood silently to the side, exchanging glances but saying nothing.
Dante didn’t notice that among the crowd was a familiar figure.
