Ethan was surrounded by a group of people, deep in conversation about work, but when he saw Autumnn walking toward him, he quickly stepped forward to meet her.
He looked a little apologetic as he said, “Autumn, I got held up just now. Are you alright?”
Autumn shook her head. “I’m fine.”
Her conflict with the Lewis family wasn’t anything new, so she had long gotten used to it.
If they didn’t try to pick a fight whenever she got near Luna, that would’ve been the real surprise.
“That’s good,” Ethan said, finally letting out a breath.
At that moment, another commotion came from the entrance, and Autumn’s gaze followed instinctively.
She saw Edwin in a formal suit, and her eyes lit up with delight.
She hadn’t expected him to show up.
What a pleasant surprise.
Edwin was laughing and chatting with a middle-aged man as they walked into the banquet hall together.
Ethan pointed to the man beside Edwin. “That’s Mr. Wilson Lee.”
Autumn gave a small nod.
Just as the two of them were about to head over, they saw the Lewis brothers and Julian already walking over to greet them.
Ethan paused, turned slightly to her, and asked with concern, “Autumn, are you okay?”
He knew her story.
Her husband and both brothers sided with the stepsister.
There was no way that didn’t cut deep.
Autumn shrugged indifferently. “What could possibly be wrong? It’s just business-whoever’s more capable gets ahead. As for them, I stopped caring a long time ago.
“But because of my personal mess, I’m probably going to lose the opportunity you arranged for me.”
She didn’t feel angry about the others having the upper hand.
In business, it was all about skill and timing.
What really made her feel bad was possibly wasting Ethan’s effort.
That was the only part that left her unsettled.
Ethan looked at her and said seriously, “I’ve always believed that gold will shine no matter what. I have zero

doubts about your ability.
“Right now, you’re just a pearl covered by a black cloth. Once it’s lifted, you’ll shine brilliantly.
“If you’re uncomfortable and don’t want to go over, then just wait until they’ve left before heading that way.
Autumn looked at Ethan gratefully. “Thank you for understanding.”
He patted her shoulder and continued, “It’s fine. You’ve written your thesis, haven’t you? Once the banquet ends, we’ll go find Mr. Shaw.
“I’m sure he’ll be glad to see the progress you’ve made since coming back.”
Glancing at the group chatting as they walked, Autumn felt nothing at all.
She was already used to being overlooked.
What did it matter anymore?
Over on the other side, Julian exchanged a few polite words with Edwin and Wilson, then introduced Luna to them.
“Mr. Shaw, Mr. Lee, let me introduce Ms. Luna Lewis. She’s currently in a combined master’s and PhD program at Highend University.”
Wilson simply smiled and nodded. “Ms. Lewis, you’re so young and already a top student at Highend—you have a very bright future ahead.”
Luna felt flattered by the compliment, but replied modestly, “You’re too kind, Mr. Lee.”
After a brief exchange with Wilson, Luna turned to Edwin.
“Mr. Shaw, I revised a paper based on the suggestions you gave me last time. If you have time, could you take a look?”
Julian stepped in and added, “Professor, I hope you’ll do us the honor of reviewing Luna’s work and offering your guidance.”
Edwin’s sharp gaze landed on Luna.
He knew exactly what Julian was trying to do-lacking real ability, he was now trying to leverage connections.
