"Boss... Boss, thank you... If it weren’t for you, I’d still be a complete nobody!"
"Meeting you, being your follower, is the greatest fortune of my life."
He lay on the bed, breathing with difficulty, but Lin Fa still clenched his jaw, determined to speak his mind. Otherwise, he might never get another chance.
"Boss, thank you. Thank you for helping me so much."
Lin Fa’s words were sincere. He had been making friends since he was a child, but not a single one had ever truly gone out of their way to help him. Those so-called friends would leave the moment they realized they couldn’t gain anything from him. Only Wu Tian had genuinely taken him on as a follower.
...
Gazing at the skinny man on the hospital bed, Wu Tian shook his head and said, "My follower? No, you are not my follower."
Wu Tian’s words stunned Lin Fa. What? Has my boss decided I’m useless, too? Is he abandoning me?
"Did I... did I do something wrong? Boss... Boss!"
Lin Fa froze. When he came to his senses, he struggled to rise from the bed. He was utterly devoid of strength, yet he gritted his teeth, determined to stand.
Even so, he had to get up!
"You are not my follower. You are my brother!" Wu Tian’s hand rested gently on Lin Fa’s shoulder.
"I... I can only be a follower!" Lin Fa shook his head, his tone filled with sorrow and dejection. "What makes me qualified to be your brother? Just being your follower is already the luckiest thing that’s ever happened to me."
Wu Tian shook his head again. Many people believed that for a true friendship to exist, both parties had to be of equal status. If their statuses were unequal, then even if they seemed like friends, their relationship was merely that of a boss and a subordinate. This was common sense. For instance, when a group of people agree to walk to school together, the one leading the way is, by default, the leader. Even if no one calls him "boss," he already is one.
But Wu Tian was determined to defy this so-called common sense.
"You are my brother!"
"You can’t escape it!"
"Brotherhood knows no hierarchy or status! If we are brothers, then we are brothers."
Wu Tian’s warm words brought Lin Fa to tears.
Wu Tian smiled, then his finger shot out and tapped the center of Lin Fa’s forehead. Instantly, Spiritual Power surged forth. Lin Fa could feel a potent force flowing through all his meridians, and bit by bit, he felt his vitality return.
Then, Lin Fa’s skeletal body began to fill out once more, transforming back into a chubby figure with a healthy, rosy complexion.
"Hahaha, I’m back in business!" Lin Fa’s dejected demeanor vanished as he shouted with glee.
Wu Tian nodded.
"This is wonderful, just wonderful!" Lirong cried tears of joy, overjoyed that her boyfriend was safe. Having come so close to losing the one she loved, she cherished him all the more now that he was back.
Lin Fa had always wanted to get married, but Lirong, as a woman, had felt it was too early and wasn’t ready to start a family. Now, however, she thought it might finally be time to settle down. At the same time, her gaze shifted to Wu Tian, filled with amazement. This boss didn’t seem human at all; he was like a god!
...
Wu Tian smiled, then started walking toward Bing Hong.
Bing Hong stared in disbelief. Lin Fa hadn’t died. In fact, he had made a full recovery in an instant. That’s impossible! Her eyelids twitched violently, a premonition of something terrible about to happen.
Once, Lin Fa had thought everything about Bing Hong was beautiful. So what if she’d had many boyfriends before him? To the old Lin Fa, that just meant she was naive and had been deceived by those men. But now, he saw things differently. Those men were scum, true. But a genuinely good woman only needed to be tricked by a scumbag once to learn her lesson. The fact that Bing Hong had been fooled time and time again could only mean one thing: she herself was a scumbag. That’s why she was always drawn to them! She liked scumbags, yet she craved a lifelong commitment. Wasn’t that ridiculous? The men made it clear they were just playing a game, and she agreed! But halfway through, she decided to take it seriously? To the current Lin Fa, Bing Hong seemed both stupid and vile!
