The Law Enforcer threatened Wu Tian, banking on his connection to the Divine Emperor.
Hearing the arrogant words, Wu Tian simply spat out two words with disdain: "You fool!"
"How dare you speak to a Law Enforcer like that?" The Monkey King, hearing this, arrived with his ministers in tow. He stood behind the Law Enforcer, sensing an opportunity to curry favor. They all glared at Wu Tian like tigers watching their prey, beginning to criticize him one by one.
"If not for the Law Enforcer’s benevolence, you’d already be dead."
"Indeed. Wu Tian, you may have gained some notoriety recently, but don’t get arrogant. The Law Enforcers are entirely different from anyone you’ve dealt with before."
"Will you not surrender and be captured?"
Seeing the Monkey King and his ministers act this way, the Law Enforcer smiled with satisfaction. "You’ve spoken well. I will remember your loyalty."
"Thank you," the Monkey King replied immediately. If the Law Enforcers were just a little more lenient, turning a blind eye now and then, the Monkey Kingdom could accomplish so much more—like expanding its territory and further oppressing its people...
"Wu Tian, do you hear me? Imprisoning you for ten years is already an act of great mercy," the Law Enforcer bellowed. "Now, tell me your choice."
"You deserve to die."
Wu Tian snorted and strode forward. A Law Enforcer was protected by the Emperor’s Light. One could harm him, but killing him would be extremely difficult, even for someone in a higher Realm.
As Wu Tian advanced, a smirk played on the Law Enforcer’s lips. "I am protected by the Emperor’s Light. What can you possibly do to me?"
The Law Enforcer advanced as well, but as he drew closer to Wu Tian, the Emperor’s Light began to dissipate bit by bit, until it vanished completely.
"How can this be?" Noticing this, the Law Enforcer cried out in alarm.
"What in the world is happening?" The Monkey King and his ministers were also stunned, completely baffled.
One of the ministers, a knowledgeable man with a white beard, explained, "The protection of the Emperor’s Light isn’t omnipotent. First, if an opponent’s strength is a Major Realm higher than the bearer’s, the light is useless. Second, if it encounters another Emperor, the Emperor’s Light will vanish."
"Now that the Emperor’s Light has disappeared, could it be that..." The Monkey King’s body trembled as he mumbled, not daring to finish his thought.
The others around him also looked horrified.
"No, impossible." The Monkey King and the others all shook their heads. Wu Tian, an Immortal Emperor? In their eyes, that was simply impossible. So what other reason could there be for the Emperor’s Light to vanish on its own?
"There is one other possibility," the same minister said. "He has been abandoned by the Divine Emperor."
"NO!" the Law Enforcer roared. "Divine Emperor! What have I done wrong?"
The Law Enforcer had also considered this possibility and felt it was the only explanation. He roared, wept, and raged. He had never seen the Divine Emperor in person. He had only sworn an oath before the Divine Emperor’s statue to serve his entire life as a Law Enforcer, to slave away for him loyally. In return, he had received the protection of the Emperor’s Light. Now that the light was gone, he was overcome with sorrow, as if driven mad.
Watching this, the crimson bird’s pupils contracted sharply. I have to get back and report this! It immediately spread its wings and took flight.
My gods, he even killed a Law Enforcer! The nearby Law Enforcers will surely sense their comrade’s death and come for blood! What the Monkey King and his court truly feared was the consequence: a Law Enforcer had been killed in their kingdom. If the new arrivals decided to hold them accountable, what would they do?
