"Th-This is... what the...?"
Charlie’s gaping mouth wouldn’t close no matter what.
It couldn’t.
The footage spread out before his eyes was so unreal it felt like CGI made to fool him.
But Su-ho didn’t have any editing skills like that.
All of this was real.
Su-ho spoke.
"When you clear multiple Gates, you end up encountering all kinds of quests, and in the process of clearing them, you obtain rewards you never expected. You can think of this as one of the rewards I obtained during that process."
"Huh... then, Director, are you saying you have all of these monsters under your command?"
"Yes. Not only the lizardmen you see on the screen, but the monsters that exist on Madagascar Island as well are being absorbed one by one by the lizardmen. As time passes, the army will keep growing, and eventually they’ll be able to conquer all of Madagascar."
"But this is a place called the Island of Death, and the monsters are in a corrupted state, aren’t they?"
"Yes, that’s correct. That’s why I personally found the cause of the monsters’ corruption and wiped it out completely. So you don’t need to worry about additional corruption coming from any monsters we recruit from here on out."
"Wow..."
What more explanation was even necessary?
And since the proof regarding corruption was coming from none other than Su-ho, it would be more certain and transparent than anything anyone else could provide.
Charlie asked.
"Then are you thinking of Madagascar Island as the site for the Hyper Camp?"
"Initially, yes."
"By initially, you mean... there are other candidates too?"
"That’s right."
Su-ho manipulated the map displayed on the screen and showed the surrounding geography.
First, Africa.
Then he showed Reunion Island and Mauritius near Madagascar Island, and even Rodrigues Island farther off to the side.
Naturally, places that had been destroyed long ago, just like Madagascar.
But because their land area was far smaller than Madagascar, they might be even better for preventing detainees from escaping.
Pointing to those places, Su-ho said,
"If necessary, I’ll clear all of the small islands here as well. And then I’ll properly land in Africa. If we enter Africa, that could become an Africa Landing Operation."
"An Africa Landing Operation... then will only your monster legion be deployed there?"
"Yes. I don’t intend to deploy people if I can help it. Even if someone is deployed, it will only be me, and after I clear out the field monsters and pick out the Gates with lower difficulty, only then will I deploy the Sabers. In the end, Gates have to be cleared by people."
"That something like that is even possible... I can’t believe it even though I’m hearing it with my own two ears. In fact, Africa isn’t just a monster problem—transportation and lodging are huge issues, so we were basically in a situation where we’d almost given up on clearing it."
"I know. That’s why even though its resource reserves are overflowing and it became an ownerless no-man’s-land after being wiped out, nobody even tried to occupy it."
But now, it could be done.
Because instead of people, they could deploy monsters.
At that moment, Charlie’s eyes sparkled.
"Uh, then... is it possible to use monsters not only for combat, but in other places too?"
"For example?"
"Like construction sites?"
"You want to have the Hyper Camp built by monsters?"
"If that’s possible?"
"It’s not impossible, but construction itself is something that requires all kinds of techniques—aren’t you asking too much of monsters that only know how to bite, tear, slash, and stab?"
"Ah..."
"It happens. When you’re happy, you start imagining all kinds of things. But if possible, you should do construction with human hands. Still, the situation is better than before, isn’t it? Before, if you wanted to build anything, you had to worry about monsters first, but now, as long as you can procure materials, it’ll be no more than simple construction on an uninhabited island. Ah, of course, I can help with things like heavy equipment. That’s exactly the kind of problem you can solve by using monsters."
The lizardmen were smart.
And the ents were gigantic, so they could be deployed in many ways for problems that required heavy equipment.
Su-ho said,
"In that sense, I plan to announce all of this to the entire world. It’s not something that needs to be kept secret anyway, and because of this, people will gain hope that they might be able to reclaim the lands that were taken from them."
"That’s right. This is something enormous. It will probably decorate several lines in human history... Director, you truly are a hero."
"Thank you. Save the World was organized to do things like this in the first place. So, about that... Africa is almost completely wiped out right now. What happens to territorial rights there? Surely it doesn’t go back to the descendants of each country that existed in Africa?"
"No. Since this is an unprecedented situation caused by the Great Catastrophe, it’s highly likely it’ll be designated as a jointly managed region, like Antarctica."
Charlie was right.
Under the Antarctic Treaty signed in the past, Antarctica had become a heritage shared by all of humanity, and the opinions of countries that had asserted territorial claims had all been put on hold.
Africa as well—an entire continent turned into a no-man’s-land—had a strong chance of ending up the same way.
'That’s for the best.'
At this point, trying to calculate corporate or national profits and losses would only make things too complicated.
"Good. The Secretary-General will take care of that, right?"
"Of course. In the first place, claiming territorial rights over Africa now would be a shameless, brazen act, wouldn’t it? It would be like putting only a spoon down on a table where someone else has already prepared the entire meal."
"I’m glad you understand."
"Then is there anything else you plan to announce?"
"As for other things... if the Madagascar Conquest Operation and the Africa Landing Operation succeed, I’d like to attempt to reclaim the no-man’s-lands that exist in other countries the same way. Until the second Big Gate breaks out, I plan to keep pushing this as the main focus."
"Wonderful. Truly, if it weren’t for you, Director, how would we humanity be living by now..."
"No. Then let’s go report together to the Secretary-General. I’d like to ask you to report for me, but given what the matter is, wouldn’t it be better for me to speak directly?"
"Ah, of course! Naturally! I’ll escort you right away!"
With a blooming grin, Charlie hurriedly guided Su-ho.
*
The delivery of opinions ended successfully.
Secretary-General Anderson, like Charlie, doubted his own eyes and ears at first, then welcomed it with both hands raised.
"Director! You truly are a treasure born of humanity!"
"Thank you."
Now all that remained was an official declaration through a broadcast.
Naturally, an embargo had been placed.
There was always someone who handled things like this.
After contacting Jo Jin-hwi, Su-ho headed straight to Korea.
