Isabella leaned in, gave the glass a cautious sniff, and immediately shook her head. “really don’t need this.”

The housekeeper hesitated, holding the tray steady. “Mr. Moore specifically instructed us to make sure you drink it. It’s part of our job.”

With that, one of them stepped forward and gently touched Isabella’s arm, almost playfully.

It wasn’t just about following Xavier’s orders–they genuinely wanted Isabella to take better care of herself.

“Just tell him I drank it,” Isabella said, turning her face away. She couldn’t stand the smell of the tonic for another second.

Around noon, Xavier was in the middle of a strategy meeting when a soft chuckle escaped him.

Everyone around the table glanced toward the head seat. The man known for his unwavering focus and stern demeanor was looking at his phone with a faint, uncharacteristic smile.

Jacob had forwarded him a clip earlier.

In the video, the housekeepers could be seen chasing Isabella through half the villa before finally cornering her in the sunroom. Forced to pinch her nose, Isabella downed the medicine in one go, her face twisting in pure agony. Tears welled in her eyes the moment she finished.

Xavier’s smile lingered, but it was soon replaced by a sharp, nagging concern.

He had never seen her so vulnerable–she couldn’t even take medicine without a struggle. It was nothing like the image he’d always carried of her.

Back when they were together, he could hardly recall her ever frowning.

She was always smiling around him.

No matter what problems arose, no matter how difficult he made things, no matter how he took his frustrations out on her.

“Come in,”

His low voice came from inside.

Amelia stepped in and saw Jacob standing nearby, the two apparently middiscussion.

Jacob had already brought Xavier his lunch–just a turkey sandwich and a green smoothie.

“What is it?” Xavier asked flatly, not looking up.

Flustered, Amelia hid the lunch bags behind her back.

“Nothing urgent. I’ll let you get back to it.”

She hesitated, then forced a polite smile before turning to leave.

Jacob, however, had noticed the containers in her hands.

After she left, he remarked, “Mr. Moore, I think Amelia was bringing you lunch.”

“Was she?”

Xavier responded absently, eyes still on the documents in front of him. He unwrapped the sandwich, took a couple of bites, and carried on as if the gesture had never registered.

Jacob glanced at the light meal. “Mr. Moore, that’s hardly enough. Let me order something more substantial.”

“Not necessary.” Xavier’s tone was cool, his attention fixed on the paperwork.

Watching him work as though every minute counted, Jacob grew concerned about his wellbeing. But he knew pushing the issue would be pointless.

After a brief pause, Jacob tried another approach. “Mr. Moore, it’s lunchtime.”

“Hmm.”
