He had planned to have the two senior doctors come today. If they confirmed the diagnosis, he would proceed with Steven’s treatment tomorrow as planned. He never expected Steven to show up early.
Steven didn't seem to notice Marlon’s discomfort. He glanced toward Mrs. Clark, saw the unfamiliar Anastasia, and paid her no mind. “Your wife seems to be in good spirits today. Excellent. Let’s begin the treatment now.”
He motioned for his young apprentice to bring over the medicine box, ready to begin.
But Anastasia suddenly spoke up. “So, you’re Mr. Parker? I wonder, what illness have you diagnosed Mrs. Clark with?”
Steven looked at Anastasia, his brow furrowing in annoyance.
He had initially dismissed her as a young relative of the Clark family, but now it seemed she was something more.
He asked directly, “Mr. Clark, who is she?”
Marlon hesitated awkwardly. “This is…”
“I am a doctor,” Anastasia stated calmly, introducing herself.
At this, Steven’s expression soured.
“A doctor? Mr. Clark, if you don’t trust me, you could have just said so. What is the meaning of this? Hiring some wet-behind-the-ears little girl? Are you trying to insult me?!”
Marlon quickly tried to placate him. “Mr. Parker, please calm down. That’s not what I meant…”
“You ignorant, reckless girl!” Steven’s face was livid. “Who gave you the audacity to spout such nonsense here?!”
“Nonsense? Oh, I assure you, it’s not,” Anastasia retorted with a cold smile. “When I shook Mrs. Clark’s hand just now, I checked her pulse. I can’t say much, but I know there are certain medicines she absolutely cannot take. And if I recall correctly, one of them is on the list of ingredients you requested from Mr. Clark, isn’t it?”
In her past life, having taken the fall for Steven, she had thoroughly researched the patient’s condition. Although she hadn't known Mrs. Clark’s identity back then, she knew her illness inside and out.
When they met just now, she had used the handshake as a pretext to confirm her suspicions. She wasn’t mistaken—Steven had indeed made a misdiagnosis.
But there was no way Steven would believe her. He roared in anger, “How many years have I been practicing medicine, and how many have you? Me, make a mistake? That’s absurd!”
He then turned on Marlon. “Mr. Clark, what are you trying to do, bringing someone like this here to insult me?! Since you trust her so much, then let her treat your wife!”
