Anastasia's face was cold. "What wrong idea?"
"He thought Ms. Brennan was the other woman, trying to come between me and Marcus. He wanted to teach her a lesson, make her stay away from him… By the time I calmed down and realized I might have overreacted and misjudged Ms. Brennan, it was already too late."
She turned to Marcus, her eyes welling with tears. "Marcus, I'm so sorry. I was just so afraid of losing you. And then I was scared you'd hate me if you knew the truth, so I didn't dare to admit it."
Marcus's face was devoid of expression. "Is that what happened?"
Yolanda snuck a glance at Ward, who snorted. "That's exactly what happened!"
Marcus's face was like stone. Ignoring Yolanda's sobbing, he suppressed his anger. "Because of a suspicion, a misunderstanding, you decided to take someone's life?"
Yolanda kept repeating her apologies, looking utterly remorseful.
Anastasia was furious. "Ms. Lockwood, are you apologizing to the wrong person? The one who almost died was Juliet, not your fiancé!"
Yolanda turned awkwardly. "I'm sorry, Ms. Brennan. I hope you can forgive me…"
Juliet was naturally soft-hearted and kind. She remembered how Yolanda had burst in during dinner and had become so agitated upon seeing her, which did seem like a misunderstanding.
But that wasn't Yolanda's fault; the one who did wrong was Ward.
She shook her head and said, "It's alright."
Marcus sighed and offered Juliet a sincere apology.
As his fiancée, he was of course aware of her background, including her origins.
His question was as good as a confirmation. Juliet's eyes lit up, and she stared eagerly at Yolanda. "Letitia! Is it really you? I'm Juliet, don't you remember me?"
The moment Juliet spoke, Yolanda's only instinct was to flee. But she hadn't expected Marcus to answer for her, confirming her identity to Juliet.
She had no choice but to turn back stiffly, a forced smile on her face. "…Juliet?"
"Yes! It's me!" Juliet nodded eagerly, her expression hopeful. "Do you remember me?"
Yolanda's mind raced. Then, she too put on a look of surprise. "Juliet? It is you! I'm so sorry, I didn't recognize you before!"
