Ryan was stunned.
A moment later, he charged out of the room.
Susan hadn't left yet. A thought had suddenly struck her—if Anastasia really was the Health Virtuoso, then Carter's condition... would she be able to see the truth?
Just as she was stewing in anxiety, Ryan burst out.
"Ryan..."
She stepped forward, intending to probe.
But a sudden slap struck her across the face!
"Susan! How could you be so vicious?!"
The force of the blow knocked Susan to the ground, her head ringing so loudly she couldn't hear a thing.
Clutching her throbbing face, she looked up and couldn't help but flinch. She had never seen Ryan look so terrifying.
Inside, Anastasia sighed silently.
With all the commotion outside, Carter had surely heard everything. He must have also understood what she had just told Ryan.
Yet, from beginning to end, he showed almost no reaction, remaining perfectly calm.
There was only a slight look of dawning realization on his face.
When he saw her looking at him, he even gave a faint smile.
"No wonder," he said. "After all these years of medicine, not only did I not get better, my health just kept getting worse."
At that moment, Anastasia felt a pang of sympathy for him. Even though he was Susan's son, she couldn't bring herself to dislike him.
Anastasia hadn't examined Lennon herself, but based on his visible symptoms, she could make a very good guess.
"A social disease," she said, her lips curling slightly, being both discreet and direct. "It seems to be quite serious. If he's lucky, it won't kill him, but the rest of his life won't be easy."
Emily immediately made a disgusted sound. "Ew! I heard he was always messing around, and he wasn't picky either—he'd take anyone to bed. Now look what's happened... tsk tsk."
"Susan is no good, and neither is the son she raised. But she certainly treasures Lennon. Even with all this, I hear she can't bring herself to scold him and just spends all day taking him to see doctors."
Hearing this, Anastasia casually interjected, "So Susan is good to Lennon, but what about Carter? How does she treat him?"
"Carter? She's very protective of him, rarely lets him out, so we don't see him much. The one or two times I have seen them, she seemed to treat him well enough."
Emily said this, but Debby suddenly shook her head. "That's not necessarily true."
Debby was a woman of few words and hadn't said much until now. Her sudden interjection, contradicting Emily completely, made Anastasia look over at her.
