Revenge is My Love Language novel Chapter 962

“Oh, it's nothing,” Marina said, explaining briefly. “Just a small issue with the film crew that Carter helped me resolve.”

Harrison looked at Carter, a hint of surprise in his eyes. “Good work,” he said.

The unexpected praise flustered Carter. He clutched his fork a little tighter, looking down shyly. “It was nothing, really. Just a small thing.”

Anastasia had to suppress a smile. Carter might look calm on the surface, but she was probably the only one who could see the nervous flutter beneath his stoic exterior.

While it may have been a simple task for Carter, the incident significantly thawed Marina's distant demeanor toward him.

After Marina left, Anastasia noticed Carter seemed to be in a particularly cheerful mood. “You really like Ms. Lawson, don't you?” she asked gently.

Carter looked a bit uncomfortable. After a moment, he admitted, “When I was… when I was little, there was a time when she was very kind to me.”

Back then, the relationship between Marina and Ryan had already grown cold, and she rarely visited. He was just a small, sickly child, left at the Lancaster estate to recover. But Ryan avoided the house to avoid Marina, and Susan wasn't allowed on the property. He was utterly alone, often an easy target for the servants' neglect and bullying.

One day, Marina came to visit and found him all by himself in a small garden, watching ants. Mistaking him for a servant's child who had been left unattended, she took it upon herself to look after him for a while.

That period was the happiest of his entire life. Even Susan, his own mother, had never shown him such gentle, attentive care.

He never dared speak of it to anyone. Toward his own mother, Susan, he mostly felt numb. But for Marina, he held a deep, unspoken affection, a constant desire to be near her.

Just as he felt an instinctive revulsion for Lennon and could never see him as a brother, he had always secretly admired Harrison.

But what right did he have to feel any of this? He was just a detestable illegitimate child. To voice such thoughts would only invite ridicule.

Marina visited a couple more times after that, bringing gifts for everyone. Carter received one too, personally chosen by her. He was overjoyed and treasured it, placing it on his nightstand. One day, when Anastasia went to his room, she happened to see it and later accidentally let it slip in front of Marina.
