Susan looked at her with disbelief, clutching Ryan's sleeve as tears welled up in her eyes, the very picture of a wronged and suffering victim.

"I've already compromised. I don't want anything but a simple apology. Is that so wrong? And you accuse me of slander... what proof do you have?"

"I have proof, of course," Anastasia cut her off. "Why else would I say it? Do you think I'm like you, convicting people with nothing but words?"

At her words, all eyes in the room turned to Anastasia.

Lady Lancaster urged her on, pleasantly surprised. "Ana, you have proof? Quick, show us!"

Susan's heart clenched.

Proof? What proof? No, her plan had been flawless. Anastasia couldn't possibly have evidence! She had to be bluffing. Susan told herself not to fall for it.

Anastasia saw the look on Susan's face and knew exactly what she was thinking. Unfortunately for Susan, she was about to be disappointed.

She reached up and unpinned a brooch from her dress.

"I forgot to mention, when I got your invitation, I had a feeling you were up to something, so I wore a miniature camera, just in case."

The color drained from Susan's face.

Anastasia smiled faintly and tossed the camera, disguised as a brooch, to Ryan.

"Mr. Lancaster, in case you think we might tamper with it, why don't you review the footage yourself."

As soon as they were out of the hospital, Lady Lancaster exclaimed, "Thank goodness Anastasia is so clever, or that woman would have gotten away with it! I always knew she was trouble, but I never imagined she could be this vile!"

Anastasia readily agreed, her own dislike for Susan now solidified into utter disgust.

"What made you think to wear a camera?" Harrison asked, squeezing her hand.

Anastasia huffed, lifting her chin. "Her invitation was so suspicious, I had to be prepared for anything. And it turns out, a little caution was exactly what was needed!"

"But what was Susan thinking?" Marina still couldn't understand. "I heard things between her and Ryan have been rocky. After finally getting pregnant, why would she be willing to sacrifice her own child just to frame you?"
