Formally welcoming Carter back into the Lancaster family was a major event.
He had always used the Lancaster name, but to the outside world, he was known as the family's illegitimate son.
That would not stand. Marina would not allow her son to suffer such an indignity, and the old lady, doting on her newly returned grandson, wouldn't have it either.
After some discussion, Harrison made the decision: they would host a grand banquet to formally announce Carter's true identity to the world.
Though doing so would inevitably invite some ridicule—that Ryan and the Lancasters had been fooled by a woman for so many years—Carter's feelings were more important than their reputation.
The entire Lancaster family threw themselves into the preparations for the banquet.
Carter, who had never been the center of such attention, felt rather overwhelmed.
Anastasia found it amusing. "They're your real family. Isn't it only right that they make a fuss over you?"
She had to admit, though, she was a bit surprised at how quickly the two elders had taken to Carter.
But on second thought, it made sense. Carter had a quiet, agreeable personality and never caused trouble, which made him naturally likable. Even when he was known as the illegitimate son, the elders hadn't disliked him; they had only kept their distance because of his connection to Susan.
Now, knowing his true identity and feeling sorry for all the hardships he had endured, they naturally wanted to compensate him with affection.
Her comforting words seemed to put Carter at ease, and he visibly relaxed.
Anastasia suddenly put her hands on her hips, grinning. "Speaking of which, shouldn't you be calling me something different now?"
"Calling you what?" Carter didn't catch on at first.
"You should be calling me sister-in-law!" Anastasia said, lifting her chin proudly.
Marina, dressed exquisitely and beaming with a gentle, radiant smile, took over after her father-in-law was done, leading her younger son around to greet the heads of their closest family friends.
When she finally grew tired, she entrusted her younger son to her elder one.

Even if the elders had no such intention, the boy himself might have ambitions. With a fortune as vast as the Lancaster's, who wouldn't be tempted?
Many speculated that the two brothers would soon be at odds and wondered what kind of power play Harrison would make at the banquet to put his new brother in his place.
