Murphy opened his mouth to retort, but one of the directors beside him tugged sharply at his sleeve and muttered under his breath, "Drop it. Let's not lose sight of why we're here."
Forced to swallow his burning rage, Murphy could only offer a venomous scowl in response.
Derrick took in the display and smiled smoothly. "Gentlemen, I presume you all came here this morning with a specific purpose in mind. In that case, let's not waste any more time on trivial matters. After all, I'm sure busy executives like yourselves have far more pressing engagements to attend to."
"Exactly," Uriel added, her voice perfectly warm and pleasant. "There's no reason to let minor misunderstandings ruin everyone's mood." Turning to Louis, she instructed, "Go fetch some tea and refreshments for the directors. They've been running around since early this morning dealing with so many complications, they must be exhausted. Let them have a proper rest."
"Right away, ma'am. I'll have them prepared immediately," Louis replied, turning on his heel and heading out.
Derrick then looked back at Murphy and the remaining board members. "Please, make yourselves comfortable, gentlemen." Without waiting for their acknowledgment, he walked over and claimed the armchair at the head of the arrangement.
Left with their complaints trapped in their throats, Murphy and his colleagues could only walk over to the sofas with tight, strained expressions.
Louis returned shortly with a line of domestic staff, setting down fresh tea and an assortment of pastries before quietly withdrawing from the drawing room.
