Factory Director Fang showed off successfully, feeling great as he went back to the meeting.
Leader Tang, slightly dizzy, came out of the textile factory and looked at the big red banner at the door.
"As expected of Jiang Cheng!"
Leader Tang left with a smile.
At the same time, Jiang Cheng and Zhu Bin arrived at the street.
There were a lot of people on the street, so the two had to wait outside for a while.
Jiang Cheng pulled a big lady aside and asked.
"Auntie, why are there so many people today?"
"Our textile factory earned foreign exchange! I heard they’re starting to make small items, and everyone came to ask if they can work for our street."
"You wouldn’t believe it, last time the textile factory handed out fabric scraps, if you were late, you couldn’t get any."
"People over at Lane Four and Five can ride on Jiang Cheng’s coattails, but we can’t!"
"I heard Jiang Cheng came up with all of this. How is she so capable!"
Jiang Cheng didn’t expect to become the subject of the gossip herself.
"It just happened to be the right time, I guess."
Jiang Cheng agreed, getting an affirmation from the big lady.
"Exactly! They say..."
Once she started "They say," Jiang Cheng knew the lady was about to share some gossip.
Aside from the fact that it was about her, Jiang Cheng was genuinely curious.
Curious about what people were saying about her.
"They say Jiang Cheng is ugly; otherwise, how could she design such beautiful things? It must be to dress herself up."
"I heard she’s in her twenties already and still doesn’t have a partner!"
"Imagine how unattractive she must be to scare off the men."
Jiang Cheng: Did she really scare them off?
Jiang Cheng, focusing on the odd point, listened with a smile, without arguing.
"Jiang Cheng!"
The gossiping lady quickly turned her head, "Where?"
Director Zhang, coming out of the street office, arrived in front of Jiang Cheng with a radiant face.
"Jiang Cheng, something up?"
Jiang Cheng quickly greeted, "Hello Director Zhang, I’m here to handle some rental paperwork."
"You—are Jiang Cheng?"
The lady felt doubtful.
The star of her gossip was right in front of her.
Jiang Cheng turned to look at the lady and smiled, "I am Jiang Cheng. Please help clear up my reputation in the future, especially telling everyone I’m not ugly, and quite pretty, isn’t it?"
With a beaming smile, Jiang Cheng showed no signs of anger, settling the lady’s uneasy mind.
Clapping her hands, she said, "Leave it to me!"
Jiang Cheng smiled and said goodbye to the lady, got the paperwork done through a back channel.
Zhu Bin took the paperwork and returned to the courtyard first.
Jiang Cheng didn’t go back with him; instead, she communicated with Director Zhang for a while.
The two walked to a place with no people, and the newly-promoted Director Zhang said a sincere thank you.
Jiang Cheng, not wanting to take credit, said, "It was all your work; I didn’t do anything. I’ll need you to look out for me in the future."
"Definitely."
After agreeing with a smile, Director Zhang quietly reminded, "Stay away from the Yang Family recently."
Jiang Cheng was surprised for a second before nodding.
"I understand."
Director Zhang’s smile was more genuine; talking to smart people indeed saved effort.
Director Zhang went off to work.
Jiang Cheng knew the big picture, naturally understood Director Zhang’s implication.
The Yang Family was about to fall.
What surprised her was that the person behind Director Zhang was quite capable, managing to let him know such information.
It seemed Director Zhang would not be confined to just one street.
Since it had little to do with her, Jiang Cheng, after figuring it out, turned and went to the police station.
Leader Tang had already returned, and upon seeing Jiang Cheng, invited her into his office.
"Jiang Cheng, I’ve reported this matter, and there will be someone specifically monitoring Zhu Bin. Whether he is or isn’t, further investigation will tell."
Jiang Cheng understood.
Spies definitely need to be caught.
But letting the wrong person take the blame was unacceptable.
