Jiang Cheng’s remark demonstrated that people really do laugh when they are extremely angry.
The first woman to speak laughed with disdain and scorn.
"You—impose upon us? That’s ridiculous."
After speaking, the woman babbled a few sentences in English with the person next to her, causing some to laugh out loud while others quietly observed the situation.
Jiang Cheng remained seated, proud and unperturbed, and snorted lightly.
"When you try to speak in a way I can’t understand, your manners are just as such."
Jiang Cheng stood up from the chair and walked straight towards the speaking woman.
The sound of footsteps echoed, each step synced with the rhythm of the woman’s heartbeat, Jiang Cheng’s gaze pierced her like a sharp blade, leaving her no choice but to meet his eyes.
The woman instinctively stood up straight, head high, not wanting to lose to Jiang Cheng.
"I am Jiang Cheng, and who are you?"
"Jennifer!"
A foreign name slipped out of the woman’s mouth, Jiang Cheng slowly extended his hand, giving Jennifer a pressured look.
"Hello, Miss Jennifer."
Jennifer didn’t even know why she reached out her hand.
She regretted it and wanted to pull it back, but it was already extended, and retracting now would make her feel even more embarrassed.
While Jennifer hesitated to shake hands, Jiang Cheng spoke up.
"Jennifer, do you know what the core of this survey meeting is?"
Jennifer let out an exclamation, regretting being led by Jiang Cheng.
She tried to regain a bit of control, unintentionally raising her voice: "We were invited to discuss foreign affairs with them."
Jiang Cheng heard this, chuckled helplessly, as if she was looking at the most unreliable child at home, and loosened her grip on Jennifer’s hand.
Her gaze shifted away from Jennifer to the surrounding individuals.
"Is that what you all think?"
No response came, yet silence spoke volumes.
Jiang Cheng’s expression quickly turned serious, her gaze sharper.
"Nonsense!"
The word nonsense caused originally relaxed individuals to instinctively sit up straight, akin to being reprimanded by a mentor.
"Discuss foreign affairs? We have embassies overseas; do you think they know less than you?"
"From beginning to end, none of you truly considered why you were brought back."
Jiang Cheng stated with authority, her gaze once again fixed on Jennifer, who instinctively took a step back, wondering how this person could be so intimidating.
"Jennifer, what is your expertise abroad?"
"I—textile material science."
After Jennifer responded, Jiang Cheng pointed a finger beside her.
"You, what’s your profession?"
The person next to her instinctively stood up, almost like delivering a report: "I am in engineering mechanics."
Next, without Jiang Cheng needing to point, her gaze swept through, prompting the next person to stand and declare their field.
After all nine had reported, they realized that from the moment Jiang Cheng stepped into the room, their every action had been guided by her.
Such realization made these prideful individuals very dissatisfied.
"What does it matter what our specialties are? The point is, why are you the first to deliver a speech?"
A man who had been observing stood and voiced his opinion, instantly gaining the support of the others.
Jiang Cheng glanced over, the speaking man maintained his composure, striving to remain calm.
