Rich in the 70s: I Made a Rugged Veteran a Millionaire novel Chapter 38

Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Self-Revelation

Sun Jiandong’s mother looked at He Dan, paused for a few seconds, and asked, "Do you know Jiang Cheng?"

"Can’t really say I know her, we just live nearby. We don’t get along very well."

He Dan showed just the right amount of embarrassment, looking as if she didn’t want to speak ill of others but still letting the discomfort show.

"Why are you speaking so ambiguously?"

Uncle Wang couldn’t stand it anymore. He frowned and shouted after seeing that, and continued to block the entrance: "No outsiders are allowed to enter the school. If you want to find your son, let this student call him out for you."

In short, they weren’t allowed to enter.

He Dan didn’t care for an old man at the gate and directly pulled a face at Uncle Wang and said, "This is a night school, you have no say here. I can’t take the aunt inside?"

Uncle Wang was amused by anger; he put one hand on his waist and pointed at He Dan with the other.

"This comrade really has some nerve. I’m the gatekeeper, do you even know what that means? Just because you say you can go in doesn’t mean you can. Is this night school your home?"

The commotion at the entrance was growing, and the students who came for classes were gradually gathering at the gate without going inside.

Sun Jiandong’s mother frowned, feeling frustrated.

"Comrade, could you help me call out Jiang Cheng?"

He Dan’s face looked unpleasant due to Uncle Wang’s words, but upon hearing Sun Jiandong’s mother’s request, she immediately put on a smile and said, "Alright, I’m going right away! Auntie, don’t be too anxious, Jiang Cheng is just like that."

"Like what?"

Sun Jiandong’s mother asked casually, and He Dan blurted out, "She’s pretty and has a lot of boys around her."

As soon as He Dan said this, Sun Jiandong’s mother didn’t react, but several girls around her were unwilling to let it go.

Jian Yueer was the first to stand up, staring at He Dan with full momentum.

"Comrade He Dan, your words are unfounded. Jiang Cheng has never been alone with any male classmates. What are you implying with your ambiguous comments?"

"What else could it be, just jealous of her looks."

"Comrade He Dan, your behavior is inappropriate."

The last person to stand up was Zhang Cuijuan, who had the temperament of an old cadre.

Zhang Cuijuan said with a disappointed face, "Comrade He Dan, you should understand as a woman how important a woman’s reputation is."

Even though Zhang Cuijuan could dislike Jiang Cheng for being in the spotlight, she could never tarnish another woman’s reputation.

He Dan completely underestimated Jiang Cheng’s standing in the hearts of the female students at night school. Her smear attempt not only failed to guide any opinion but instead drew rebuttal and disgust.

A person who so easily slanders others’ reputations shouldn’t be trusted with deep friendships.

"Mom—why are you here!"

Sun Jiandong arrived; he was behind his mother.

Sun Jiandong stood beside his mother, pushing his bicycle, not comprehending the situation.

"I’m here to find Jiang Cheng."

"How do you know Jiang Cheng? Did you hear something from someone?"

Sun Jiandong glared at He Dan, pointing at her angrily, "Did you listen to her! Mom, she never tells the truth, don’t listen to her nonsense!"

Sun Jiandong quickly explained.

He had no interest in Jiang Cheng, and even felt a bit of reverence.

Amid the rebuttals from several classmates, He Dan kept her head down; ever since she had come to the courtyard house and up to this day, the suppressed resentment towards Jiang Cheng was finally boiling over.

Why?

Jiang Cheng, a country girl who didn’t even finish primary school, why does she always surpass me?

If you all hate me, then you should hate Jiang Cheng too.

He Dan suddenly raised her head, her voice sharp.

"Mr. Sun, don’t be fooled by Jiang Cheng’s looks!"

"He Dan, are you crazy? Jiang Cheng didn’t say anything, and you’re out here smearing her; you’re just insecure!"
