Rich in the 70s: I Made a Rugged Veteran a Millionaire novel Chapter 69

Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Leaving You with a Record on File

"It’s all a misunderstanding."

Jiang Cheng chuckled.

"A misunderstanding? If I killed you and said it was a misunderstanding, would that fly? This is the first time I’ve seen someone pick up something and put it on themselves."

"Stop feeding me nonsense, I won’t believe it."

Jiang Cheng stopped Yang Guilan’s mother from speaking and directly stepped aside for the two police officers behind her.

"I am the complainant here. It’s not my job to gather evidence or seek the truth, and these kids who are witnesses are exactly who I’m reporting to the police. They’re accomplices in bullying Shen Yue."

The surrounding parents instantly became displeased.

"Are you out of your mind?"

"This isn’t a big enough deal to call the police!"

"Isn’t this a waste of police resources?"

"What are adults getting involved in kids’ matters for?"

Jiang Cheng stood calmly, waiting for the parents to finish before she spoke.

"Today they teamed up to steal a backpack. Who knows if they’ll dare to rob a credit union in the future. I’m helping you, yet you fail to see it."

"But it makes sense. The fact you can stand on the same side without question suggests you’ve done this kind of collusion often, and you’re even proud your kids took advantage."

At this point, Jiang Cheng looked at the kids.

"It’s Dragon Boat Festival, and I don’t have anything else to give you, so I’ll gift you a record on file. It’ll accompany you as you grow up."

"You’re going too far!"

"How dare you!"

A few parents stepped forward, but Jiang Cheng didn’t move.

"Hit me? The police are still here. Do you want to get on file with your kids? That would be interesting. I wonder how your workplace will view this situation."

In one sentence, those who were agitated suddenly calmed down.

Jiang Cheng snorted coldly, looking at Yang Guilan’s mother.

"What I want is simple: an apology and compensation."

Yang Guilan’s mother stepped forward, glaring at Jiang Cheng and asked, "Do you know who I am?"

"Yes, I do!"

Jiang Cheng said matter-of-factly, "I know you’re the parent bullying my family Yue Yue’s child. As for the rest... not worth a thing!"

Yang Guilan’s mother was visibly angered, and said savagely, "You will regret this."

"Only incompetent people bark like that."

Jiang Cheng could see the muscles in Yang Guilan’s mother’s jaw clenching.

Serves her right!

Yang Guilan apologized to Shen Yue, compensated ten yuan for nutritional expenses, and returned the backpack.

Jiang Cheng held Shen Yue’s hand, standing in front of Yang Guilan, and said, "Yue Yue, remember, if someone bullies you, seek out the police. If it doesn’t work out, we can always visit another classmate’s home to reason things out."

"I remember, sister!"

After a few people left, Jiang Cheng thanked the two police officers and returned home with Shen Xing and Shen Yue.

As for Sun Aiguo, he said he would walk home on his own.

When the three of them returned to the big courtyard, Grandma Shen was anxiously pacing around.

"Why are you back so late!"

Grandma Shen squatted down, examining Shen Yue and Shen Xing to check if the two kids were hurt.

Jiang Cheng explained the whole situation, and Grandma Shen suddenly felt a pang of sorrow.

How could children without a father or mother have such a hard time!

"As long as it’s nothing serious, come inside."

Grandma Shen urged the two kids inside and turned to wipe her eyes.

"Grandma Shen, I’m still here."

Grandma Shen grasped Jiang Cheng’s hand and, with a pang of emotion, said, "We really have no kinship ties left."

Jiang Cheng looked at Grandma Shen in surprise.

Grandma Shen nodded and said, "I was raised by my brother when I was young, just like Xing Xing’s grandpa."

That makes sense now.

"Jiang Cheng...thank you, really...I..."

"No need to thank me like this, I’ll have plenty of times to bother you in the future. Just don’t find me a nuisance."

Jiang Cheng joked and then continued, "I’d like you to take me to visit Director Zhang from our street. I have something I want to discuss with him."

"Alright!"

*

Uncle Sun led the way, followed by Jiang Cheng, and they arrived at Director Zhang’s house on the street.

Director Zhang was quite surprised, not knowing what these two had come to see him about.

However, he had a deep impression of Jiang Cheng.

After some pleasantries, only the three of them remained in the room, with Uncle Sun sitting aside as an invisible man.

"Comrade Xiao Jiang, is there any difficulty you’ve come to discuss?"

Jiang Cheng shook her head.

"No difficulties. I’ve come to ask about two matters."

"Oh?"

Director Zhang waited for Jiang Cheng to ask.

"First, is the leadership position in our district vacant?"

Director Zhang’s expression grew more serious.

"Yes, but why are you asking about this?"

Jiang Cheng confidently smiled, her eyes deep.

"Director Zhang, are you interested in moving up a position? I think the leadership position in the district is quite suitable, don’t you think?"

A silence fell in the room.

Uncle Sun held half a mouthful of water, momentarily forgetting to swallow.

He felt a sense of dissonance, wondering if he should even be hearing this.

Director Zhang, not taking it seriously, smiled and shook his head, "Comrade Xiao Jiang, this isn’t something you need to worry about."
