It took a long time for Susanna to process the words. "Clayton, you want me to move out?"

"Yes. It's quieter over there. Better for you to rest," Clayton said, his voice leaving no room for debate.

Tears pooled in Susanna's eyes. "Why? Why are you making me leave for her? Did you forget how... how vicious she was?"

"Yes, exactly because she's vicious. That's why you're moving out. So she doesn't retaliate against you," Clayton said calmly, glancing back at Jade.

Jade looked away. Hearing him call her vicious stung, even if it was true.

"Get some rest. No more games," Clayton warned Jade before turning on his heel and leaving.

Susanna shot Jade a look of pure hatred, but she didn't dare argue. She hurried after him.

"Clayton, I don't want to leave..."

"The decision is final," Clayton stated flatly.

Susanna stood frozen, tears streaming down her face, as she watched him enter his room and shut the door.

His attitude toward her had shifted lately, but she was too afraid to press the issue. Instead, she channeled all her fury toward Jade. That wretched woman must have fed him lies to turn him against her.

Gritting her teeth, Susanna glared venomously at Jade's door.

Just wait. She would get rid of Jade once and for all.

Inside her room, Jade leaned against the headboard, staring out the window.

She couldn't understand why Clayton insisted on keeping her here, going so far as to evict Susanna just to force her to stay.

With a heavy sigh, she decided to stop overthinking. She slid under the covers and eventually drifted off.

Perhaps because the wound was deep, or because she was utterly exhausted, Jade spiked a high fever that night. In her delirium, she dreamed of her childhood.

She dreamed of the day she first returned to the White family and laid eyes on Clayton.

"Jade has a history, so I obviously won't trust her completely. But she hasn't done anything completely out of line yet. Let's observe her for a while longer," Alicia replied dismissively.

Jade had indeed met with those men, but they were the ones who sought her out, trying to convince her to help Brandon reclaim White Corporation.

There were still too many loyalists holding onto false hope in this company.

Alicia let out a cold laugh as she scrolled through the pictures. "I'm aware..."

Before Alicia could say anything else, a knock sounded at the door. "Director White, it's Jade."

Susanna's eyes darted toward the door, and she scoffed. "Director White, whatever you do, don't listen to her lies."

Alicia nodded. "You can head back to your desk. I know what I'm doing."

Susanna stood up and walked to the door, bumping shoulders with Jade on her way out. A smug smirk played on her lips, her eyes silently taunting Jade that she was doomed.
