Natalie’s POV

Hearing Baron speak of Ruby Stone; the woman who had practically skinned herself so that I could have a face again sent a cold shiver through me.
Baron was already reaching for his jacket, when a sudden clarity washed over me. I couldn’t stay behind this time.
Baron was about to leave when I stopped him, my hand catching the sleeve of his coat.
“I’ll go with you,” I said, my voice whiny and pleading.
Baron paused, his dark eyes searching mine. I saw the hesitation there but I didn’t give him the chance to argue.
“After all, this all happened because they donated skin for me,” I continued, my gaze boring into his. “And I know what they’ve done, and the price they’re paying for it… if I don’t go, it would feel wrong. It would feel like a betrayal of the gift.”
I saw the flicker of conflict in Baron’s expression.
I knew what he was thinking.
“Why don’t I have Shauna take you instead?” he suggested. “I need to coordinate the logistics and find the Witch Doctor. He’s… difficult to pin down. If I’m distracted by your safety, I might lose the window to bring him in.”
I didn’t argue, “that’s fine. You’re busy anyway but Yvonne can come with me. She knows the layout of the city better than anyone.” The mention of Yvonne brought a small, sad smile to my lips. I already knew about her transition from “scout” to “sister” from Baron’s earlier confession. I had no objection to her being his little sister.
If Yvonne stayed with Baron, if she finally had a name and a protector, it was better for her.
And once I reclaimed my place, I would make sure Yvonne was well–cared for. She had given me her skin; I would surely repay her.
Seeing me agree so easily, Baron nodded at once. He stepped to the door and called for Yvonne.
When Yvonne entered the room, the transformation was striking.
She wasn’t wearing the tactical gear of a scout anymore; she wore a simple, elegant dress that highlighted her newfound status. When she saw me, her eyes lit up, and she beamed with happiness.
“How are you feeling?” she asked, rushing to my side. “Have you had a full checkup yet? I heard one of the donors – Mrs. Stone developed clotting symptoms. Natalie, if you ever feel even slightly unwell, or if your skin feels tight, you have to tell me and my brother right away. We can’t take any risks with the integration.”
I smiled at her frantic concern. It was a new sensation, having someone worry about me without an ulter Yvonne. Truly, I feel… stronger than I have in years.”
My reassurance startled her, and for a second, we just looked at each other.
motive. I’m line.
Then, Yvonne’s grin widened into something mischievous. “I’m glad to hear it. My brother would have a heart attack if anything happened to you now. He’s quite the overprotective Alpha when it comes to his mate.

My cheeks turned pink instantly.
The heat was unmistakable, “Don’t call me that…” I muttered, looking down at my hands.
“Why not?” Yvonne laughed, her voice bright and teasing. “You and my brother are bound to be together sooner or later. It’s destiny, Natalie. Besides, you already have a child together. You’re practically our Luna already.”
“Yvonne!” My voice sharpened but the deepening blush on my face betrayed my emotions.
Yvonne laughed, raising her hands in a mock gesture of surrender. She didn’t push me further; she knew the seed had been planted. “Alright, alright. I’ll be good. So, when are we going? Flynn sounded like things were moving fast.”
“We’ll stop and buy some things first,” I decided, standing up and reaching for a light coat. “I can’t show up at a hospital to thank a donor empty–handed. I want to find something meaningful for Mrs. Stone. I heard they’re at Alice Hospital.”
When I had first arrived at the villa, I had been a broken thing, covered in wounds and tucked away in the shadows of the surgery wing. To be honest, I hadn’t even had a chance to properly explore the shops or the culture around here yet.
Yvonne naturally had no objections. She was eager to show me the city, to act as my shield and my companion. Baron stood by the window, watching the two of us chatting together. He shook his head with a smile.
“Take a few more bodyguards with you,” he commanded, “I really can’t get away right now but later, I’ll make time. I’ll take you out shopping by myself, and you can buy the entire mall for all I care.”
“Alright,” I nodded, a small smile playing on my lips. “Go handle your business, Baron. I’ll be safe with Yvonne.”
Baron didn’t linger and left the room quickly.
I watched from the balcony for a moment and not long after Baron’s car pulled away.
I turned back to Yvonne, a sense of purpose settling over me. “Let’s go. I have a debt to acknowledge.”
The mall was a sensory overload.
After weeks of sterile white walls, the vibrant colors were almost dizzying.
