Chapter 111 The Little Usurpers
Baron’s POV
I watched her as she gathered Susie and Sean into an almost desperate embrace.
It wasn’t hard to guess what was happening behind those calm eyes of hers.
She was looking at Susie and Sean as if she owed them a debt that could never be fully repaid.

1, however, remained unbothered by the heavy atmosphere. I had signaled to Shauna to bring the children to the formal dining room. If we were to be a family, we would start with the discipline of a shared meal.
The four of us sat down at the mahogany table at the pack house. I took my place at the head, expecting a quiet, orderly lunch but boy was I wrong.
Natalie spent the entire time fussing over the children’s plates, she was making sure every bite was the right size, checking the temperature of the soup, and hovering over them until my patience began to strain.
She wasn’t eating; she was serving.
My brows furrowed as I watched her hand–feed Sean a piece of steamed vegetable. “They’ve got hands and feet, Natalie,” I said, my voice tightening. “They are perfectly capable of navigating a dinner plate on their own… You should focus on your own meal, you’re the one who just came out of a hospital bed.”
Susie caught the displeasure in my tone as she looked at me, then at Natalie, and a spark of calculated mischief lit up her eyes.
She reached for a shrimp, peeled it and placed it directly into Natalie’s bowl.
“Mommy, eat more protein,” Susie said, her voice dripping with fake sweetness. “It’s good for your recovery… you have to stay strong for us.”
Sean, realizing the favorite child title was at stake, scrambled to his feet and lunged for the serving platter.
“Mommy, eat more fish! It’s good for your brain!” He said, placing a piece of fish on her plate.
Within seconds, the table transformed into a battlefield of kindness. The two of them began a competition to serve her, piling her bowl high with greens, grains, and proteins until she could barely see over the heap of food.
My face darkened, I had brought her here for myself. I had not intended to be sidelined by two miniature versions of myself.
“I think,” I said, my voice dropping low with the intention of scaring them, “that you two should go back to the island. Your education there was much more… structured.”
The effect was instantaneous.
Susie froze, her hand halfway to a bowl of rice as she looked at me with wide, watery eyes before lunging to cling to Natalie’s arm
“Mommy, no!” Susie wailed, her voice shaky. “Don’t let him! On the island, it’s just me and Sean and the tutors, and it’s so boring! There are no stories there! I want to stay with you!”
“Me too!” Sean cried, his lower lip trembling. “I’m staying with Mommy too! Daddy is being mean!”

Natalie’s head snapped toward me, her brow knitting into a deep frown.

She had already learned about the isolated island estate from Shauna, and I could see the judgment forming in her eyes.
The butlers who had raised them had finally settled into the pack. They wouldn’t want to return to that island… though the children didn’t know that.
She wrapped her arms around both of them, pulling them into her. “Don’t listen to your daddy,” she said, her voice firm as she flared at me.
“Mommy could never send you away,” she whispered into Susie’s hair, though her eyes remained fixed on mine. “From now on, you’ll stay with me. In this house… Under my wing. Alright?”
“Yes!” both children shouted.
I leaned back in my chair, the heavy silver fork in my hand feeling extremely heavy.
Why had I brought these little brats into the world to begin with? I hadn’t even won my beauty’s heart yet and now they were stealing her attention.
The children didn’t care about my mood at all. They finished the meal while laughing at Natalie’s soft–spoken stories and accidentally spilling juice that she wiped up with a smile I would have killed to receive.
When the meal finally ended, I stood up, intending to lead Natalie to the study for a private talk about the upcoming DNA results.
I was about to object to the children’s continued presence when Natalie spoke, “alright, you two! It’s time for a nap. I’ll take you both to nap with me. we can tell stories until we drift off. Let’s go!”
“Nap with Mommy!” Sean cheered, grabbing her left hand.
“Stories!” Susie echoed, grabbing the right.
Hand in hand, the three of them began to walk toward the grand staircase.
Natalie didn’t bother to look back at me… She didn’t even ask if I wanted to join.
Hand in hand, she led the children away toward the grand staircase, leaving me standing alone in the dining room, as though I had been forgotten entirely.
I stared at the empty chairs, the silence of the villa rushing back in to mock me.
I was already sulking from being abandoned at the dining table when the vibration in my pocket broke the stillness.
A call from the Nightfang pack.
My eyes narrowed as I answered.
“Alpha, Jensen’s men have already set their sights on our black market branch. Our people can’t hold out much longer.”
