She is straddling a beggar while you stand here trying to get back what you’ve lost,‘ Cairn spat, his words dripping with a jagged, lethal mockery.
‘The pitying looks of these wolves, they are laughing at you, Jensen. They aren’t looking at an Alpha. They are looking at a cuckold. A failure. A man who couldn’t keep his Scribe and couldn’t even buy the loyalty of his mate.‘
The pitying looks from the reporters around me… the way they whispered behind their hands and lowered their lenses in a mock show of decency nearly made me faint with rage.
“Out of my way!” I bellowed.
My eyes were bloodshot as I shoved the reporters aside with violence.
I stormed toward the stairs.
The crowd parted instinctively.
No one wanted to be in the path of a wounded Alpha who had finally lost his mind.
At the top of the stairs, the silence only made the sounds worse.
They were louder now, unfiltered by distance.
“My little beauty, you’re so sweet. Another kiss,” the stranger’s lustful, gravelly tone rang out, thick with a revolting satisfaction.
At that moment, something in me snapped cleanly.
I wanted to tear the throat out of every living thing in that room.
“Ah… are you trying to join in the fun?” a voice drifted through the room, mocking and light.
I didn’t care.
I kicked the lounge door the rest of the way open and stormed into the room.
I froze.
The scene was worse than the audio.
Sharon was there, her body flushed and her eyes glazed with a terrifying, drug–induced vacancy.
She was straddling a man who looked like he had crawled out of a sewer.
My mark on her neck was like a dagger stabbing directly into my eyes.
The woman i had married on my fifth anniversary with Natalie.
The woman I had chosen to “protect” from a terminal illness.
She was here, in a public café, destroying what was left of my name with a man who looks like he eats trash
“Sharon!”
My roar split the air.

In one stride, I was on her. I grabbed her shoulder, the silk of her dress tearing under my grip, and I slapped her across the face with the full force of my palm.
“Ah!”
The blow sent Sharon sprawling across the carpeted floor, the physical shock finally jolting her back from the chemical haze.
She blinked, her eyes clearing just enough to see the sea of cameras and the blood–red fury in my face.
She began to scream.
“Shut up! Haven’t you shamed me enough?” I hissed.
I yanked off my jacket and threw it over her trembling, half–naked body.
“Put it on!” I commanded, my voice shaking.
Then, I turned.
I unleashed my fists on the beggar.
I didn’t use my wolf’s claws; I wanted to feel the impact of his bones against my knuckles.
“Murder! Help!” the beggar screamed, finally sobering as his face became a mask of blood.
But I was like a wolf gone mad.
I drove my fists into his ribs until my knuckles went numb.
