Chapter 182 The Final Shield

Sharon’s POV

I sat huddled against the door, clutching Jensen’s jacket around me like a suit of armor, though it felt more like a shroud.

As we pulled up to the grand gates of the villa, I could see the familiar silhouette of the building.

I scrambled out of the car the moment it stopped, my legs still trembling from the drugs and the shock.

I had to fix this.

I had to make Jensen see that I was the victim here.

“Jensen, please!” I cried, rushing to his side as he stepped out.

His back was to me.

“You have to listen to me. That scene at the café… it was a setup. Natalie… she’s not the person you think she is. She’s cold, she’s calculating. She planned this to humiliate you through me!”

I reached for his arm, desperate to feel the warmth of his skin but before my fingers could graze his sleeve, the sharp, rhythmic flash of blue and red lights cut through the twilight.

Two pack cruisers and a Pack Enforcement vehicle screeched to a halt behind Jensen’s SUV.

Four officers stepped out, my heart gave a violent, sickening lurch.

Not now. Not like this.

One of the officers stepped forward. “Ms. Sharon Summers?”

I straightened my shoulders, trying to reclaim the arrogance that had carried me through the last five years.

“I am Luna Sharon. What is the meaning of this intrusion?”

“Ms. Summers, we need you to come to the station immediately to assist in an ongoing poisoning investigation,” the officer stated. his voice devoid of any inflection.

The world seemed to tilt.

My breath hitched in my throat, and I felt the blood drain from my face so rapidly I feared I might faint.

Jensen’s head snapped toward me, his expression darkening into something truly terrifying.

“Poisoning case?” he repeated, the words sounding like a growl from deep within his chest.

He didn’t look at the police.

He insunctively looked at me

I felt a cold sweat break out across my neck,

What was going on? A poisoning case? Why now? Why me?

My mind raced through the possibilities.

Could Lucy have slipped up? No, impossible!

I had been so careful.

The pesticide-based poison was colorless, tasteless, and designed to mimic the steady decline of a woman of Quincy’s age.

No one should have been able to detect it until the organs were already too far gone to repair.

“You’re mistaken!” I shrieked, my voice cracking with a high-pitched desperation. “I don’t know anything about a poisoning case. I’ve been in the hospital myself! I’m a victim! How dare you speak to me with such accusations? Do you know the scandal you’re inviting by even standing here?”

I expected Jensen to step in, to roar at them, to leave his property, to protect the reputation of the Nightfang Pack.

But Jensen’s voice came like a whip.

“No matter your title, first you are a citizen of the pack,” he said, his words cutting through my hysterics with a terrifying clarity.

“And citizens have a duty to cooperate with investigations, especially those involving the loss of life. Sharon, if you’re truly innocent, no one can wrong you. The law will find the truth.”

Panic clawed at my chest.

Innocent? I was anything but.

“Jensen, you can’t abandon me!” I sobbed, throwing myself toward him, my fingers digging into his forearms.

I didn’t care about the enforcers watching.

“I’m your mate… Your pack’s Luna. If I’m hauled into a station like a common criminal, the news will destroy your pack… Do you really want to see your pack dragged down because of a misunderstanding?”

But Jensen simply looked down at my hands on his arms, and I saw a flash of deep disgust cross his face.

As I tried to cling to him again, his face turned to stone.

He caught my wrists and forced them away from him, his strength absolute.
