I’m trying to keep my cool in front of my kids but my entire universe was narrowed down to the point of contact where Natalie’s hand had just been.

All I want to do now is to carry her over my shoulders and do all sorts of things to her.

How can I tell my kids to leave us alone?

I haven’t been with her for so long

Natalie’s face flushed even redder as I sent her the image in my head through the link.

It’s nothing, she fumbled to explain, her voice a pitch higher than usual.

She tucked a stray lock of silver hair behind her ear, her movements jerky and uncoordinated.

Guilt and embarrassment were written all over her expression.

I stood there, my muscles coiled and my pulse thrumming with a demanding ache.

I couldn’t help finding it amusing, even through the haze of my own frustration.

Here she was, a flustered mess because she’d accidentally touched her own mate’s leg.

All I could do was take one deep breath after another, trying to force the desire of my wolf, Raze, back into the depths of my mind.

Patience,’ I told myself. Don’t chase her yet,’

You all go on ahead,” I managed to say, my tone remarkably calm despite the storm in my blood. I just remembered I left something in the bedroom.

Natalie didn’t miss the opportunity.

She slipped past me with a quick, mischievous grin the kind that told me she knew exactly what kind of trouble she’d caused and was thoroughly enjoying her escape.

Then I’ll take the kids to the car and wait for you,she said, not giving me a second to respond.

She grabbed Sean and Susie’s hands, her steps light and hurried as she led them toward the foyer.

Yvonne, who had been watching the exchange from the kitchen door, let out a soft chuckle.

She was wise enough to give us space, quickly disappearing into her own quarters.

I looked around at the suddenly empty living room.

Just moments ago, it had been a whirlwind of laughter and family warmth; now, I stood there alone in the silence, feeling a little frustrated and more than a little ridiculous.

I looked down at my hands, which were still slightly trembling.

I regretted the cold shower because it clearly hadn’t been cold enough.

And yet, looking at the door where she had just vanished with my children, I knew I wouldn’t trade this frustration for a thousand years of peace without her.

Resigned to my fate, I waited until my body finally calmed down before heading out to the garage.

When I climbed into the back of the SUV, Natalie’s face was still burning, and she pointedly stared out the window, refusing to meet my eyes.

She was clutching her handbag as if it were a shield.

Susie and Sean noticed the odd tension vibrating between us.

They shared a look but they were smart enough not to ask.

The strange atmosphere lingered all the way until we reached the gates of the Nightfang Pack Grand Park.

The moment the car stopped, the tension snapped.

The children were out of the doors before the driver could even move.

They ran straight toward the towering, colorful gates of the amusement park, their small voices carrying on the breeze.

Watching their excitement, I saw the tension drain out of Natalie’s shoulders.

A soft, genuine smile broke across her face, transforming her back into the woman I adored.

I stepped out beside her, adjusting my coat.

I had already sent a team ahead to secure the tickets and clear a perimeter, though I had kept it subtle as per the kidsrequest to play with real people.

I thought you’d take them to the mall first,Natalie said, her voice finally steady as we began walking toward the gates.

I shook my head, my hands deep in my pockets.

The mall’s always there, Natalie. It’s functional. But the amusement parkthat’s something they’ve been longing for since they saw it on TV on the island. And going together with Mommy and Daddy makes it more than just a trip. It makes it a memory. This comes first.

Natalie stopped for a second, looking at me.

I didn’t hide the tenderness in my eyes as I watched Sean and Susie hopping with excitement near the turnstiles.

I had raised them in a gilded cage for their own protection, and every day I had seen the questions in their eyes about the world outside.

Thinking of those solitary years, Natalie murmured, It must’ve been hard on you. Raising them aloneI didn’t realize how much you had to compensate for.

I leaned slightly closer to her, the scent of her hair fresh rain and vanilla filling my senses.
