Chapter 240 Don’t You Dare Blame Natalie
Jensen’s POV
I stood in the foyer, the weight of the day’s failures pressing down on my shoulders.
Hansel had turned up nothing- no footage, no witnesses, not even a stray scent trail from the café to the warehouse.
It was as if a ghost had reached out, humiliated my mother, and vanished back into the ether.
And through it all, Loretta kept cursing without pause.

“She’s a viper, Jensen! A cold–blooded viper! She sat there with that smug look on her face white her thugs were waiting in the shadows to snatch me!”
My brow furrowed tightly without me even realizing it.
The headache that had been pulsing behind my eyes since the morning sharpened.
“Mom, that’s enough!” I barked, my voice echoing through the vaulted ceiling.
“I know you’ve been wronged… I know it was terrifying. But I’ve already had the best trackers in the pack look into it… I told you it wasn’t Natalie–so why do you keep going on like this? Where is your composure?”
Loretta froze.
She never expected me to speak to her with such blunt authority; she immediately exploded, her face contorting into a mask of indignation.
“Jensen! I am your mother! Are you saying I have no manners? That I’ve lost my dignity? Watch me beat some sense into you!”
Furious, Loretta started looking around for a vase or a cane – anything she could use to strike me.
She was a woman who had ruled this pack for decades with a silver tongue and an iron will, and she couldn’t handle the fact that her son was no longer under her spell.
I felt utterly exasperated.
The scent of her was becoming unbearable for my wolf.
I could feel my inner wolf pacing, wanting to howl just to clear the air of her screeching.
“Asher,” I called out, not even looking at her. “Take her downstairs to freshen up. She doesn’t exactly smell pleasant right now.”
1 had no choice but to remind her of the state she was in.
It was only then that Loretta seemed to remember how disheveled she looked.
Her wet hair was matted to her scalp, and her streak–stained face was a far cry from the Luna she projected.
This was hardly the time to be arguing with her son when she looked like a drowned rat
She shot me a final, resentful glare before hurrying back toward her wing to wash up.

exhated, rubbing the bridge of my nose.
Finally, silence.
Or so I thought.
Just then, a servant entered, hovering nervously by the arched doorway.
“Alpha… The Luna is here.”
“Who?”
I sounded surprised, as if I hadn’t quite caught the name.

“Luna Sharon,” the servant quickly clarified, glancing toward the driveway. “She… she doesn’t seem to be doing very well, sir.”
That was when I remembered Sharon’s pregnancy.
My mother seemed to care quite a bit about that child… it was the heir she had been demanding for years.
My brow knit even tighter.
“Fine, let her keep my mother company; better that than having her making trouble outside every day. Prepare a room for her.”
But as soon as the words left my mouth, I felt a sudden, crushing sense of suffocation.
Sharon’s POV
As the car pulled up, I clutched my stomach, my heart thudding.
I had been frightened into submission by Natalie.
I hadn’t thought much of her before.
But then she came back from the North, and suddenly she was terrifying.
I wasn’t stupid.
After poisoning Quincy to keep my secrets, I had already alienated the Summers family.
Dad hadn’t taken action against me yet, but I knew he was watching.
If I ever lost favor with Jensen’s family, the consequences would be disastrous.
The baby in my belly was my only bargaining chip.
I had to protect it.
I had only come to the pack house today to test the waters, hoping Loretta’s fondness for the heir would be enough to get me through the door.
I never expected it to actually work.
A triumphant smile tugged at my lips as the servant led me inside.

stepped into the foyer, smoothing my dress, and my breath caught.
“Jensen?”
I looked surprised though my eyes shone with delight.
Did this mean Jensen was allowing me to stay?
Did it mean there was still a chance for us?
Instinctively, I tried to slip my arm through his.
My wolf was gone leaving me feeling frail and human in the presence of his Alpha aura.
